About this listen

Warleggan is the fourth novel in Winston Graham's hugely popular Poldark series, which has become a television phenomenon starring Aidan Turner.

Cornwall 1792. Ross plunges into a highly speculative mining venture which threatens not only his family's financial security but also his turbulent marriage to Demelza.

When Ross and Elizabeth's old attraction rekindles itself, Demelza retaliates by becoming dangerously involved with a handsome Scottish cavalry officer. With bankruptcy an increasingly real possibility, the Poldarks seem to be facing disaster on all fronts.

Warleggan is followed by the fifth book in this bestselling series, The Black Moon.

Critic reviews

Ross is one of literature's great heroes . . . [with] elements of Darcy, Heathcliff, Rhett Butler and Robin Hood (Debbie Horsfield)
From the incomparable Winston Graham . . . who has everything that everyone else has, then a whole lot more.

Oliver J. Hembrough has nailed the narration of Warleggan. Maybe I've become accustomed to his female voices, especially that of Demelza, because this performance seemed very smooth and drew me in completely. I was able to immerse in the story without being jarred by male overtones for my romantic heroine. I think this is a very talented performance.

The storyline continues to be excellent, as we tumble through the Poldark family highs and lows (Ross, very bad, you fell of the pedestal there!). My only complaint is that I have to wait for the next instalment... Let it be soon (and let it be Mr Hembrough as narrator)!

Compulsive listening!
