About this listen

Sam Morpeth is left to fend for her younger sister when their mother goes to prison. But when a stranger begins to blackmail her online, she's drawn her into a trap she may not escape alive.

Reporter Jack Parlabane is indebted to a volatile source, and now that debt is being called in, it could cost him everything. Thrown together by a common enemy, Sam and Jack are about to discover they have more in common than they realise - and might be each other's only hope.

Want You Gone is the superb new psychological thriller in the best-selling Jack Parlabane series. Award-winning best seller Chris Brookmyre is at his best yet with this nail-biting story.

Critic reviews

Praise for the Jack Parlabane series:
"Exceptionally good - a knotty mystery...Brookmyre plays a cunning, careful game." ( The Guardian)
"Reminiscent of the best of Nordic Noir but with its own vivid landscape." (Renee Knight, author of Disclaimer)

The book was clever as you would expect from brookmyre and I was hooked from the start. Great twists and turns, with Parlabane on form.
If only the narration had matched the female reader was annoying to listen to and did spoil some of my enjoyment

Gripping

The story, the performances of the narrators and the beautiful Aberdeenshire surroundings as I listen. Nothing better.

Brookmyre at his best

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Chris Brookmyre has translated his classic intrigue, dark humour and excitement into the world of cyber-crime, and has managed to make it about people, personalities, human failings, rather than the cold and impersonal presentation that the subject matter would suggest.
Jack Parlabane has a new job opportunity, giving him a chance to get his life back together and restore his reputation. Simultaneously he's being forced into thoroughly illegal activities which will destroy him if exposed.
Credible characters throughout and a story that pulls you in, makes you think, makes you laugh and sometimes has you holding your breath as you wait to find out.
Very enjoyable, loved the two narrators who delivered the story extremely well. The technical computer-wizardry aspects were an integral part of the plot, as you might expect, but they did not detract from it in any way.
I confess that on some occasions the storyline intricacies took some unravelling to appreciate the implications in terms of characters and motives, but that had nothing to do with the author!

New environment, but still intrigue and excitement
