 Wallenstein, einer der bekanntesten Kriegsführer des 30jährigen Krieges, war zugleich auch eine der rätselhaftesten Erscheinungen der deutschen Geschichte. Nach den Vorstellungen Wallensteins sollte der Krieg den Krieg ernähren, und so entwickelte er ein Kontributionssystem zur Finanzierung seiner Armee. Damit stieg er zum mächtigsten Kriegsfürsten im Deutschen Reich auf. Auf dem Höhepunkt der Macht wird er beschuldigt, auch nach Böhmens Krone zu streben, es hieß sogar, er wolle den Kaiser enthronen.
