About this listen

Suddenly all alone in 1894 Kansas, Summer Steadman can't find the employment she needs to settle near the fresh graves of her husband and four children. Bitter against the Lord and refusing to eat, she collapses in despair. Remembering his own painful loss, godly widower Peter Ollenbuger offers her food and shelter for tutoring his 10-year-old son.

Kim Vogel Sawyer has penned an inspiring debut novel whose unforgettable characters resonate with emotional intensity and compelling authenticity.

As an avid fan of Tracie Peterson, Caroline Fyffe and others, I bought this, so sure I would enjoy it. However, it's just too religious for me, even though I am a committed Christian myself. Additionally, I find the story itself too far-fetched, plus there's so little in the way of descriptive prose, which is a real shame. The title "Waiting for Summer's Return" is very strange when she is actually present for 90% of the book and leaves a couple of chapters before the book ends.
