About this listen

When the whistle blows to announce the end of a paint balling session, the men regroup to assess the winning team. But when one of men fails to show, a search of the forest is carried out, and a grisly discovery is made.

DCI Freya Bloom and DI Ben Savage attend the scene with their team, only to find the eclectic group of men are on a stag do…and the victim, Zack Cummings was the stag.

With nine suspects to investigate, and nine potential motives to consider, Freya and the team seek to understand which of the stags had the strongest motive.

But when a second man is reported missing and the investigation takes a dramatic turn for the worse, one fact becomes clear… their lives are about to change forever, and until the killer is brought to justice, none of them are safe.

Waiting for Death is the seventeenth captivating police procedural in Jack Cartwright’s bestselling Wild Fens Murder Mystery series set in the heart of the Lincolnshire Fens.

I really enjoyed the whole investigation and for once couldn't work out who the villain was ! my son came in as I was listening to the finale because he wondered what on earth was making me sob so much as I listened to it unfold and couldn't bear the thought of any of them getting killed especially the scene with Gabby. it was so good to have the relationship back with Gabby and Gillespie as I listened, they make me laugh so much . I cant wait for book 18 to be released , I know Jack is such a fast writer but we really need to clone him so we get double the amount of books to read . he is the best author I have read by any means and Graham is the most perfect narrator bringing
them to life so well.

on the edge of my seat !

When you think Jack has written his best book, along comes another one. The plots keep you engaged from start to finish and there’s always a little twist at the end. The characters are like old friends and the relationships between them are just superb. Come on Jack I need the next one now,

Just when you think it can’t get any better

Readers who have read my previous reviews will know I am an avid fan of the fens murder mystery series. Jack Cartwright 's characters each contribute to the humour, pathos, common sense, empathy and overall enjoyment I get from these books. I laugh, I cry, I understand frustration and I realise humour is a necessary antidote to the horror which often accompanies police work. I care little as to whether I would find the procedures in the novels true to life. they are real to me. I become engrossed in the investigation and the writing and narration paints as good a picture as any murder drama on the t.v.
The bonus of listening when I'd find it impossible to read a book is immeasurable to me. I do hope you are able to continue this series. keep me informed please. Thank you for 12 hours of post Christmas enjoyment.

"outstanding". kept me in suspense until the very end.

Usual great characters portrayed at their best. Rollercoaster of emotions experienced and the plot as usual seemed obvious but was not. Love that it’s set in my local Lincolnshire countryside. Great series hopefully not too long before the next is published.

Sad, but interesting plot.
