About this listen

One of Rosamunde Pilcher's classic novels.

Laura, newly married and ever conscious she may be living in the shadow of her husband Alec's first wife, decides to take a holiday with his family in Cornwall.

Through the long hot summer days, she is slowly charmed by the beautiful old house and the people she learns to know and love. In time her uneasy spirit is soothed by the sparkling, brilliant sea, and her restless heart finally calmed. But is this newfound tranquillity too good to be true? For with the arrival of an anonymous letter, one accusing her of having an affair, Laura's world is thrown into turmoil.

I felt this was a very intuitive book. Rather sad at times but the story was good and it was well worth a read. It covered a lot of potentially 'real' situations plus some more extraordinary ones.

Poignant

Another brilliant book by Rosamunde Pilcher. Really enjoyed it and the narrator Jennie Bond is wonderful.

Superb story telling.

It was ok if you read these books when they were published, but one thing I have noticed while reading Rosamundes books in retrospect, is that it’s hard to picture the characters in your head because you don’t know when the story is set and what the character would look like, or be wearing etc. Just a year at the beginning of the book would do.
Personally I found this story a little long winded and lacking and struggled to keep reading.

Not really very exciting but listenable

The story was very slow to become interesting and I didn't engage with the characters as quickly or as strongly as I have with most of Rosamunde's other books.
I enjoyed the last quarter, but unfortunately the least enjoyable of all of Rosamunde's books I have listened to so far.

story very slow.

Nice book, very addictive. Little bit predictable, but good light read and very atmospheric for anyone who knows Cornwall

Really enjoyable read
