Summary

Vice Versa:

A Lesson to Fathers

By F. Anstey

Narrated by Jennie Litt

This comic novel, which first appeared in 1882, is one of the earliest examples of a story in which personalities are swapped from one body to another.

The pompous businessman Paul Bultitude is farewelling his son who is about to set off for his first year at boarding school. Due to the action of a magical stone, the personalities of each are switched into the body of the other. The businessman is forced to relive the experiences of his schoolboy days and the boy takes charge of his father's business.

The theme of personality swaps has since been explored widely in a variety of formats, including opera, film, TV shows, and graphic novels.
