Summary

A match between a vampire and shifter could be deadly - but this broken beaver doesn’t give a dam.

Silent film actor Casimir Moreau had imagined that life as a vampire would be freewheeling and glamorous. Instead, he’s plunged into a restrictive society whose rules he runs afoul of at every turn. To “rehabilitate” him, the vampire council orders him mated to an incubus with impeccable breeding who’ll mold Cas into the upstanding vampire he ought to be. Or else.

As an inactive beaver shifter, construction engineer Rusty Johnson has fought - and overcome - bias and disrespect his entire life. But when his longtime boyfriend leaves him for political reasons, Rusty is ready to call it a day. Next stop? Supernatural Selection and his guaranteed perfect mate, a bear shifter living far away from Rusty’s disapproving clan.

But then a spell snafu at Supernatural Selection robs both men of their intended husbands. Rusty can’t face returning to his clan, and Cas needs somebody on his arm to keep the council happy, so they agree to pretend to be married. Nobody needs to know their relationship is fake - especially since it’s starting to feel suspiciously like the real thing.

So fun

Cas and Rusty are the ones that were supposed to be matched up with those in book 1. Well, as these two need each other to fake their relationship for various reasons. Neither of them expected to fall for the other. The story will keep you snickering in humor.

Greg Boudreaux does amazing with bringing everyone to life.

Loved this series!

This is one of my favorite series ever, and this book 2 is one of the reasons. The author managed Cas and Rusty's misadventures in a fabulous way, maintaining all time the funny banter between the characters, the sweet and endearing situations and the perfect steamy scenes. This book is another piece in the amazing world Ms. Russell built in all her paranormal books and it is a delight discover slowly the whole universe and the wonderful and beautifully written characters. Mr. Boudreaux translates perfectly the sentiment and ambiance of this world and its characters and he brought them to life in a perfect way with his magnificent performance and smooth and charismatic voice. I loved specially his interpretation of Cas. A wonderful narration that fitted perfectly in this lovely love story.

Loved these characters

Cas and Rusty have both been dealt crummy hands by their fellow vampires and clan respectively and end up unintentionally matched together at the supernatural marriage brokers. Initially, they are an opposites don't attract pair but spending time together opens both their eyes to how perfect they are for each other. This is a superb take on the "fake" relationship trope and as always, Greg Boudreaux's performance captures the characters perfectly. Cas' snark, Rusty's level headed down to earth qualities and the emotions they start to feel for each other. This is a definite re-listen.

The Cas and Rusty story…

This is a great book. Cas is the youngest vampire, treated like a naughty kid by his peers and wrongfully accused. He has to marry someone nominated by Supernatural Selection and so the story begins. Rusty is not his perfect match but he is gorgeous, loyal and the sweetest shifter. It’s a fun story, with a case to solve and a sweet romance. Cas is a different kind of vampire and Rusty a different kind of shifter so they are perfect for each other. The narration was so good. It’s an overall win 🥇

Narration really brings it to life

What a great series this has turned into! Loving the characters and the mash up of supernatural beings in each of the books.
We meet Casimir, a vampire, and Rusty, an Inactive beaver shifter. The two come together due to the snaffu with their intended husbands (see book one) and come together to make the best out of the situation for each others respective problems.
The characters are well developed with strong personalities that I found very enjoyable. The two together are hilarious as their first meeting is disastrous with the second not being much better. They have a clash of personalities but when they relax enough to let their true selves come through, it's great reading their interactions and the developments between the two.
All of the secondary characters and the world in which the story takes place brings so much to the story, helping to bring our MC's together as well as cause strife. We have several issues going on for both men at the same time but I never felt overloaded with information or trying to track the goings on. Everything flowed smoothly and was paced out really well.
To me the end was quite the surprise and made for an even more heart warming HEA.
I highly recommend this book and series to fans of E.J. Russell paranormal love stories.
Greg is a wonderful narrator and he effortlessly brings the characters and story to life through the whole book. I love how Rusty and Cas sound and you can feel the relationship developing through the words Greg speaks.

Adorable Story! Perfect Performance by Boudreaux

Oh my gosh, adorable! What a fantastic story.

Vampire with Benefits, the second book in E.J. Russell's Supernatural Selection series, is about as opposites-attract as it's possible to be. And these two guys end up making the perfect couple. Funny banter, and wonderful chemistry between the MC's, plus E.J. Russell's incredibly clever universe, made me happy from beginning to end.

Icing on the cake? Greg Boudreaux's absolutely spectacular narration! Simply perfect.

Such a great book

Following on from book 1, where Ted and Rusty and Quentin and Casimir were meant to get married, if you read it, you would know that things didn't go quite to plan. This isn't a stand-alone book. You really do need to read book one first.

This book tackles what happens when the first marriage to the wrong people leaves two unmarried fiancées and a shed load of problems.

Rusty (A beaver, non-shifter) has a complicated past, and Casimir has to get married, or the Vampire council will deal with him. However, paperwork was amiss, and their intended ended up married to others.

I really enjoyed E.J. Russell's style of writing. It keeps my brain occupied all the time, and having it narrated by Greg finished it perfectly. Great book.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Greg Boudreaux was a pleasure to listen to, clean and concise. I speed this narration up to 1.20 on Audible, which is usual for me.

4.5

It was going to be 5 stars until the last hour of the audio when a plot device is used that I don't like. My irrational hated of it would have probably had me not picking this up if I'd known, but I would have missed out.
90% of this was perfect! I loved the genuine connection they shared. The way it built slowly. The outside threats added tension. Perfect.
The ending was a tease and I really want more of them.
The narration - Greg Boudreaux speaking with a French inflection? - divine.
