Summary
Dieser plattdeutsche Roman von Fritz Reuter hat einen autobiographischen Hintergrund. Reuter wurde wegen "demagogischer Umtriebe" zum Tode verurteilt, wobei er sich keiner Schuld bewusst war. Dieses Todesurteil wurde in 30jährige Festungshaft umgewandelt; sieben Jahre hat Reuter davon abgesessen.
Das Buch ist einerseits geprägt von Verbitterung über die ungerechte Verurteilung und die niederträchtige Behandlung während der Haft, andererseits enthält es viele burlesk-komische Szenen aus einem geradezu "fidelen Gefängnis".
