Summary

From USA Today best-selling author T.M. Frazier, Up in Smoke is a standalone. You do not have to hear the rest of the books in the King series to enjoy Smoke's story.

I'm a man without a conscience. I deal in murder and mayhem. I'm the best at what I do. Frankie Helburn is supposed to be an easy job. A means to flush her father out of hiding. Simple.

Except there isn't anything simple about Frankie or the secrets she's keeping. She's stubborn as hell and the sexiest god damn thing I have ever seen, sending dark, dirty animalistic desire coursing through my veins. She's cocaine with legs.

A f--king addiction that makes me question things I've never questioned before. Want things I've never wanted before. I might have her, but she isn't mine to keep. If her father doesn't show his face, she will be mine. To kill.

It was good but I was hoping for more

I love the King book series, however, the story line of this book was not as developed as the other ones in the King series. There were situations that I thought needed more explanation or development but it never happened, it feels like the book was finished in a hurry and left lots of things hanging.

However, I liked the plot and the characters.

Good - but last couple of hours let it down a bit

Enjoyed this book and probably would have given it 5 stars but the last couple of hours seemed like they were written in a hurry. That section was like a cheesy action film with lots of very fortunate miraculous survival moments, and certain plot points completely brushed over which really merited at least a scene to discuss them, and some villains that were a bit too stereotypical. Any normal book and I would have capped it at 3 stars, but I genuinely really enjoyed it for the most part. Wish Frazier had a bit more time to complete the book properly though!

T.M. Frazier is amazing...but

What in the world happened to the narration? Troy was great but Lucy Rivers...wth? I have listened to several other books she narrated but this was absolutely horrible narration by her. I honestly had the hardest time listening to it. She sounded so fake and over exaggerated in her female voice. The men’s voices...it honestly sounded like someone with speech disabilities at times...I mean Duke...are you kidding? I just don’t understand. I mean, Lucy Rivers has never been a favorite, in fact, I don’t even remember her other than I know I have listened to other books. I have never been this appalled by narration of a well known authors book than I am with this...because of Lucy. The book is great, but I just can’t believe how much I hate listening to this. Listen to Duke...”seriously Sarrrrruuuuhhh”. Ugh...cringe. I have listened to 463 audiobooks and have never felt the need to write a negative review about a narrator...until now. Sorry, I know this sounds so rude. The book is great. Troy is great. I am really mad t feeling Lucy on this one.

My Two Pennies

Phenomenal job with narration by Lucy and Troy. We can easily feel the intensity of all the characters pouring through the speakers. Smoke and Frankie... holy hell! This story pulled me in from the beginning and just captivated me till the last words. We’re given everything you can imagine as we hear Frankie’s story with Smoke. This man is mysterious and sexy and has the biggest heart underneath all that bad boy image. I absolutely love these characters and bringing everyone back yet keeping this as a stand-alone was perfect. Anyone that hasn’t read the King series can easily enjoy this story although I highly recommend you read them all as well as All The Rage, you’ll appreciate this story that much more. I was blown away with the turns that came and had me on the edge non stop. Beautifully written and I hope there’s more in the future. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

I love these characters!!!

I began listening to TM Frazier a few years ago starting with King. How I got that book I'll never know. Romance may be a usual genre for me, but if I had did a close read of the book's description I don't think I would have listened to it - and that would have been my loss. I got this book (Smoke) and the Outskirts Duet. I liked the Outskirts story and characters, I'm very glad I listened to both and may listen to both again, but I LOVED Smoke.

Very Entertaining but NOT Unabridged..

I've been a fan of the King series since the first book so I'm not surprised that this latest installment did not disappoint. However, I read the book's Kindle format and noticed there is an obvious difference when compared to this audiobook. This supposed unabridged version is NOT narrated word for word. There are entire paragraphs and dialogue from the book which were omitted and/or changed in the audiobook version.

I LOVED it, I'm greedy & I want more!

What did you love best about Up in Smoke?

I love how her books flow and intertwine together. She gives you glimpses into past couples and enough detail that you don't need to go back and re-read, yet not so much that it takes away from the current story.

What did you like best about this story?

This story gives you twisted with the perfect amount of sin.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Smoke carried Frankie to safety, just like in her dreams

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!!!!

Any additional comments?

I've both read and listened to this book. I LOVED it, I'm greedy and I want more! TM Frazier does a fantastic job of mixing dark & gritty with lust & humor. She gives you twisted with the perfect amount of sin.

Lucy Rivers & Troy Duran did an excellent job at bringing this story to life!

The King Series

These books do not diaappoint. Never a dull moment but they do stick together better than most blood family would. worth a credit. Smoke is heard about throughout the series. Finally getting to his story. Who is next....Nine?

Deliciously Dark

Ever since we met Smoke in previous books, I knew I wanted his story. I had a feeling it would be dark and delicious, and it was. Frazier didn’t disappoint with this story! Although Up in Smoke is listed as book 8 in the King series, it can be read as a stand-alone. You’ll get more out of the story if you’ve read the other books, but you don’t have to.

Smoke is a man who works in the shadows. He goes in and out just like smoke. He’s a killer for hire and he’s great at his job. There are things in his past that put him on a new mission. A mission for revenge. Someone took someone that meant something to him and he’ll do whatever he needs to get back at this man. Frank Helburn.

Though Smoke has trouble finding Frank, he ends up finding his daughter Frankie. Frankie is so much more than what meets the eye. She is one of my favorite TM Frazier heroines to date. She’s clever, courageous, and a fighter. She’s so much more than what Smoke expected. Once he’s captured her and kept her for a while, he honestly has no idea what to do with her.

Smoke is ruthless. He’s a killer, and yes, he kidnaps our heroine. I couldn’t fault him for his reasons, and because I knew him from the other books, I still loved him either way. I loved the complex relationship between Frankie and Smoke. I loved all the twists and turns, unexpected plot twists and the ruthless characters that still have huge hearts for the ones they love and are completely loyal to each other. Getting to see some of my favorites from the previous books was a welcomed treat!

I was impressed by the narrators, Lucy Rivers and Troy Duran. Troy, especially brought Smoke to life with his gravely voice. It was an easy book to listen to and one of those I honestly am glad I listned to instead of read.

If you like dirty, dark, and action packed reads, Up In Smoke is the book for you! Recommend to all fans of TM Frazier and all those who love the dark romance genre.
