About this listen

Am I happy? How would I know? What is the measure of happiness?

Deep thoughts to indulge on my birthday, while at a funeral. As I stare down into my grandfather-in-law’s grave, it’s all I can think about. When was the last time I felt truly happy with my life?

Those questions linger long after the funeral, eating away at my tranquility like a necrotic wound, until one night I finally ask my husband if we can open our marriage to "live a little." Surprisingly, he says yes.

I throw myself headlong into an adventure through the bars and bedrooms of Austin, Texas. For the first time in my life I’m living in the moment—new friends, new lovers, new boundaries to cross. It's all just innocent, no-strings fun...until I meet Alex. Alex changes everything.

During self-discovery, have I stumbled across love?

Book one of the award-winning Lost in Austin series, Up for Air, is an unconventional romance that can be listened to as a standalone.

In this story, the FMC, Ari, questions herself, her experiences, and her relationship with her husband. They decided to try polyamory. At some points, Ari made me so mad! But finally, one of her friends says something along the lines of having her cake and eating it too. She finds herself stuck in a difficult situation. I didn’t expect to cry, but in the end, I cried.

Laura Horowitz and Ryan Lee Dunlap made this listen so good. I could listen to both of their voices all day.

A story of testing boundaries!

First of I just want to say the narration for this book was outstanding! Laura did an absolutely fabulous job of portraying our female character Ari and I loved her performance so much! This is the first book I have listened to Laura narrating but it will not be the last! Ryan Lee Dunlap was perfect in this narration as well and he had quite a few male roles to fill and he did them all perfectly.

Ari when at a funeral realises that she isn't happy in life and in her marriage and wants to open the marriage up to discover a new lease of life and try new things. Her husband Greg agrees to this without much hesitation (I found this a bit off putting that he wouldn't question it more) and the new lease of life begins. The book spans over around 8 months and we see Ari getting drunk for the first time, smoking her first cigarette, kissing a stranger, first one night stand etc and I really loved seeing her go through this journey. I did think we needed more from Ari and Greg, discussing their dates, more openness with each other considering they were in an open marriage but they were keeping secrets from each other and I would have liked them to be more open.

I really did enjoy this story and I thought the writing was very good and the story keeps you enthralled wanting to know more. I definitely do think Ari ended up with the perfect person for her. I see this is a series and book 2 has my favourite side character Jake so I will definitely be adding this to my TBR.

Great Duet Narration!!

Christina Berry’s “Up For Air,” a beautifully told romance novel, comes to life from the pages to your ears, performed by the wonderfully talented Laura Horowitz and Ryan Lee Dunlap. An enthralling story, or more like a journey or an exploration of one finding their happiness, one who always played it safe and wonders if they ever really lived, wondering what else is out there, when their life just isn’t doing it for them. The characters in this book are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, and they are likeable too. Ari and Greg married young, and their passion and fire for one another continues to burn, but Ari questions her happiness, and thinks of all the things she hasn’t done, feeling she hasn’t really lived her life to the fullest. Talking it over with her husband, and asking to have an open marriage, was something she hadn’t thought he’d agree with, but he did, for her and then for him. Kudos to Ari for her courage and going for what she wanted, and despite a weak start, she met an impressionable guy, Alex, who she thought she’s never see again. It was great watching her go through the list of things she wanted to do, mostly other guys and experiences, some were super hot too. We hear about Greg’s chosen relationship, feeling he played it safe. I was curious what their open-marriage arrangement would do for and to their relationship in the long run, and I started off rooting for them, then rooting for someone else. Jack was an important person to both of them, and I was getting ideas there too. I loved all the layer of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, a touch of angst, heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Berry’s writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Christina Berry, thank you for this fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧  And for the amazing audiobook listen, Laura Horowitz and Ryan Lee Dunlap were a perfect pairing and cast to bring these characters to life, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. Horowitz was a natural in Ari’s role, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her insecurities to her strength and determination, as well as her confidence. Dunlap was just as amazing covering the roles of several male characters, embodying each one completely and nailing them all. You could hear how heart they put into their performance, expressively conveying all the characters’ emotions and making you feel each one. It is a pleasure to listen to these entertaining storytellers perform, and it is a captivating performance that keeps you hooked to the story.
