Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Samantha Towle comes a new sexy, romantic suspense standalone novel....

Daisy Smith has spent 18 months of her life paying for a crime she didn't commit. Now out of prison, she has only one focus - to get back custody of her younger brother, Jesse, who is deep in the foster care system. Desperate to rebuild her life and show the system that she is responsible enough to care for Jesse, she takes on the only job available to her - working as a maid at the Matis Estate.

On day one of her new job, Daisy meets Kastor Matis, the only son of the owners and her new boss. An enigmatic, handsome Greek god of a man, Kas is closed off, cold, and...well, kind of a bastard.

The more time Daisy spends around Kas, she starts to see there might be more to him than just his cold, bastard ways. He may actually have a heart beating in that frozen chest of his.

But Kas has secrets, too. Secrets that he's determined to keep.

Secrets make Daisy curious.

And you know what curiosity can do....

UNEXPECTED PLOT. I LOVED THE BRITISH DIALOGUE TOO

Not what I expected at all, which was a kind of office romance, I was so wrong and was hooked from start to finish.

Daisy May Smith also know as Mayday by her friend.
A fellon, a victim of a wrongful arrest for a Robbery she didn't commit, set up by her boyfriend and her only crime loving the wrong guy.

Kaster Matis, also known as Kas..
A mystery, the owner of an estate, a broody guy who comes across as Lord of the manor and is rightly nicknamed by Daisy as Kashole.

When Daisy first gets out if prison her sole purpose is to get her brother back who was put into care when she was sent to prison.

Following her release Daisy is offered a job from the probation service as a maid on a private estate which is when she is introduced to Kaster Matis.

Daisy is no pushover and despite her position refuses to let Kashole's Moody ways and icy stares drag her down.

Kas and Daisys relationship is a gradual build with neither if them letting people in easily.

The chemistry is hot and the suspense, mystery, twists, and turns surrounding Kas, his past, his present, his secrets, keep you eagerly anticipating the truth to unfold and you are kept guessing while at the same time rooting for Daisy to finally have things go her way.

A plot with mystery, suspense, danger and revenge.

I loved the British dialogue, the characters and the plot was brilliant.

I listened on audio with brilliant narration that brought the characters to life.

Told in first person dual pov, leads to hea.

WOW.. IT WAS UNEXPECTED, SEDUCTIVE & SUSPENSEFUL

Samantha Towle has exceeded all my expectations with this very addictive and very powerful story about Daisy - a framed heroine wrongly found guilty of a crime she didn't commit and lost just about everything because of it. But the one thing she didn't lose was her supportive bff and, with her help, Daisy started to rejoin the world and pick up the pieces of her shattered world after spending eighteen months of her sentence in prison. Her Parole Officer has found her a job as a maid at a wealthy Estate and, for Daisy, this is the first step to getting her younger brother out of care.

However, it would also be the start of a frustrating, confusing, annoying and dysfunctional relationship with her new employer.. the very handsome, very hot and very moody Kastor Matis (aka Kas). Because right from the start Kas has been verbally biting Daisy's head off and acting like he doesn't want her there.. and yet there are times when Daisy's sure she sees more in his eyes than dislike. And she is anything but immune to this Greek God of a man who gets her pulse racing every time they meet, makes her go weak in the knees with his sexy voice and challenges her patience every time he opens his mouth.. because every now and again Daisy gets a glimpse of the man behind the arrogant frowning facade. The more time they spend together the more Kas warms.. but even then there's conflict and rejection until sizzling chemistry makes the passion ignite. And just when everything starts to go right - it goes horribly wrong because Kas has been holding back some devastating secrets, heartbreaking truths and much more which led to Daisy having to reveal jaw-dropping shocking discoveries that would change everything.

This story, which was set in Britain, was a slow build.. but then their undeniable chemistry picked up pace until things got real and it was hitting me with revelations, intrigue, angst and drama - gut wrenching, stomach churning, chilling, suspenseful, dangerous and heartbreaking.. they were all there. Daisy was a strong and interesting heroine and Kas was a multi-layered bossy badass anti-hero who had a lot going on underneath his moody alpha surface and, despite being a bastard to Daisy, you could feel he was a damaged soul in pain.. I just didn't realize how much and how bad that pain was until ALL the truths came out. A very well written touching and emotional story that was only one part sex to ten part storyline.. a storyline that grew and grew and picked up pace until it became a gripping unstoppable listen. There was romance and some very tender sentiments too that melted my heart. Told entirely from Daisy's POV and the English narrator did a good job.

Worth a credit? This listen gave me all the right feels, ticked some boxes I wasn't even expecting to be ticked, is anything BUT unsuitable.. and yes, IMO, very creditworthy. (And thank you Ms Towle there were times when this could've been stopped on cliffhangers and chopped into a duet or trilogy - but you resisted the temptation that so many Authors are succumbing to these days.. and for that I am exceedingly grateful. This book took you two years to write and I loved every delicious hour, every intoxicating minute and every awesome second that I was lost in it.)

Strong start, but fizzles

It started out strong , which is the reason for 3 instead of 2 stars, but lost me about halfway. I just wasn't interested anymore. I just wanted to finish the book. There were some interesting parts, but there wasn't enough connection to keep me engaged. Once I hit 6 eyerolls, I lost interest.

Narrator:

VIctoria Aston: 3 stars-Her male voices need lots of work.

Spoilery Stuff:

At one point heroine says she's "made her peace", but clearly she's still struggling with what's happened. She barely knows the hero, but she loves him already? I never really believed the connection. She loves him, but one line in the book goes something like "we're over before we even had a chance to begin". I give a lot of leeway, and I'm easily manipulate to believe what the author tells me, but this book was difficult.

4 heartbreaking stars!

Oh Samantha Towle you got me good...😭
I was bawling my eyes out throughout the story and I was so not expecting that. Kas is cruel with his words and so confusing with his actions. He is the ultimate hot and cold tortured hero. Poor Daisy did not know which way was up. After having her life ruined I felt so bad for her when things were still not looking up. I especially felt for her when Kas was mean. You will be rooting for her to get her HEA.

Narration
It took me a while to get used to the narrators voice but once I did it was enjoyable. I had no problems following along.

Potential good story that got in its own way.

This review is hard for me because the storyline had the potential to be really good and interesting. However the main character had too many internal conflicts that were voiced and muddled the action playing outside her head. Less ruminating more storytelling would have made it a better and more compelling story. Sad, really because I could not envision myself revisiting the book for a second or third read.

⭐️INTRIGUING⭐️suspenseful 💗romance

This book is a bit different from other books by this author but not in a bad way! It doesn’t have as much sex appeal as say The Mighty Storm’s Jake Wethers LoL. But it still has a couple very sexy scenes💋
It is a unique story with interesting, sometimes sad, sometimes utterly disturbing and occasionally angsty scenarios in a solid listen for romance lovers who like a little Taste of dark, a little sex, a lot of suspense.

Would make a great movie!

Really great story and slow burn! Kas or Cas not sure how to spell it, makes a great mystery! And Daisy is not your typical damsel in distress. Loved her!

Emotional

I felt every emotion Daisy went through. It’s very hard to get me that involved in a book. Victoria did an amazing job with Daisy!

New author for this listener

This is the first time I've read a book by Samantha Towle in a very long time and I wasn't disappointed. Either was i disappointed with Victoria Aston, the narrator.
The story jumps into the fray immediately with our heroine, Daisy, falsely arrested for robbery when in actuality the thief was her boyfriend's brother. Daisy is sent to prison for 3years, serves 18 months and gets an early release. Meanwhile her younger brother is in the foster system. Daisy knows she needs a job as the first step in getting her brother back. Her best friend thru all of this is Cece, who has bought a place where she, Daisy and her brother can live. Cece is aware of what Daisy needs and what she has to do to prove she is in a stable place now and can be responsible in caring for her brother since dad is dead and mom ran off.
Daisy is hired by Kas, who lives in his parents estate, as a maid.
Interesting is how the author ties Kas' teenage tragedy/secrets to the false imprisonment of Daisy's. The catalyst of both appears in name only during most of the book but has such a profound effect on both the H and h. The "demon" comes into the picture towards the end of the book and gives Kas and Daisy the opportunity to set right the wrongs that were committed. There isn't much background story of most of the secondary players. The focus was on Daisy and Kas.
The epilogue is used to see into the characters lives 3 years forward. It felt a bit rushed, but at least there is a HEA.
