Summary

One night, two crimes. A grisly murder. A vicious sex attack.

DS Ewan Striker is the best detective on the force. Unconventional and uncompromising, he is respected and feared in equal amounts. Tag Westland is a rookie. A rich boy who has realised that being a cop is not as glamorous as he first thought. In fact, he has his resignation in his pocket.

These two unlikely crime fighters are thrown together as it becomes apparent that each of their investigations are inextricably linked to something even more evil: a major terrorist attack.

Really well put together listen

I discovered Robert White through his Rick Fuller books. I loved those and the narrator Nicholas Camm who brings a world weary feel to the narration.
This is not a Rick Fuller book. It is still a wonderful listen. The characters are well defined and the plot moves on at a pace. It has an unexpected ending ( at least to me) and has a marvellous cameo that really made my day.
Obviously I enjoyed it and absolutely recommend it. Once again, top marks to Nicholas Camm!

Shame about the Narrator!

I do like a good detective series and was keen to start this one. I was engrossed by 'Dirty' by the same author. However, right from the start the narrator, Nicholas Camm, grated. The un-natural pauses in his reading made me loose the plot - I had to listen too hard to keep on track. The detective was a intriguing character and the story very real. I would have loved to follow the rest of Robert White's audiobooks. However, I won't be listening to anything else by this narrator, so it's all down to the paperback, which unfortunately I don't often get around to.

Accents

Enjoyed the plot generally, unfortunately as Mancunian born but now a Lancastrian living within 5 miles of the city of Preston I found the narrators local accents unfortunately to be blanket Mancunian nasal, and in no way East Lancs.
The narrator seems to suffer from northern stereotypes all sounding like Oasis!
A little bit of of background on regional accents would have helped this book.

Unlistenable

So many good stories spoiled by poor naration. I struggled with this book because the narrator's presentation was the same for every sentence. It was unbearable after a while and I gave up. I will try to return this book.

White's books can be difficult to follow

Right to the end I was looking forward to the next book. May well have missed something somewhere and listened to the epilogue with tears in my eye. Clever use of characters throughout especially Des from another book by the author. I hope this situation never happens in the UK but fear it might one day ! Rip Tag Westland ... a British hero. Read it !

voice cadence is distracting

good story but the narrator's voice cadence is distracting. I read one quarter of the book hoping to get past that issue but finally gave up.
