Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Whether you are neurodivergent, suspect you might be, or want to be a better ally, UNMASKED will help you make sense of it all, and put the power in your hands.

Ellie was 24 when she learned she wasn't broken. She wasn't a bad person, she was neurodivergent. Her late diagnosis of ADHD and autism was like a lightbulb being switched on and she could finally start to heal from the trauma of being un-diagnosed and mis-understood for so long.

Since getting her diagnosis, Ellie has made it her mission to change the way we think about autism, ADHD and neurodivergence and in UNMASKED she shares what she has learned along her journey.

Written in a bite-sized style for whizzy brains like hers, Ellie shares chapters on mental health, pretty privilege, how to navigate the workplace and the importance of self-diagnosis so that we can all better understand and celebrate neurodivergence, and ultimately make the world a more inclusive place.

Inspiring

Thanh you for writing this book and scaring your story, Ellie. My 13-year-old daughter has recently been diagnosed with AuDHD and masks hugely, so much so that no one believes her when she tells them about her diagnoses. She is slowly beginning to share her diagnosis more widely and beginning her journey to live a more authentic life. This book was hugely helpful. Thank you.

I feel so heard

I’ve honestly resented myself for such a long time and wondered why I cannot achieve like those around me. This book made me feel heard and understood. Not only do I understand myself more, I now have the words to articulate my difficulties to those around me.

light bulb moments

As a neuro typical I can't recommend this book enough! Having a grown up daughter diagnosed with Autism last year and seeking a ADHD diagnosis this book coukd have been about her. It's explained so much and I know areas of improvement as a mother I will certainly be doing.

Powerful!

I couldn’t help but feel compelled to write a review on this book. Within 10minutes of reading/listening I had never felt so understood in my entire life. The overwhelm of emotions was so raw and I’ve never cried as much both with sadness and joy. As a 35 year old, undiagnosed (what I now believe to be) AuADHDer, I’ve never felt as heard or seen. I battled a system for my daughter for 6 years, eventually getting a diagnosis for her aged 16. Bizarrely over that time I never thought of myself until she was officially diagnosed. I’ve read so much in every form (hello new hyperfixation) over the last year but nothing resonated as much as this book. Thank you Ellie for writing it, thank you for allowing me to truly accept who I am and push for what I need in my true authentic AuADHD self. There will still be a lot of work to be completely comfortable with my brain but I am no longer ashamed of who I am and why I think and feel the way I do. Thank you again and to everyone else exploring who they are, you are wonderful just the way you are. To everyone who reads this book to help your own understanding of neurodivergencies, thank you. I appreciate you.
