About this listen

Ghosts are real, and they’re watching over their families. Sometimes, that’s a good thing. But not for the Evanses.

Tennessee Evans comes from a long, undistinguished line of crooks, grifters, layabouts, and rascals. She’s made her share of mistakes, sure, but she’s trying to break the mold. Even after a contentious breakup that hits her emotionally and financially, she works hard, keeps her head up, and carries on.

Then her ex winds up murdered in her backyard. And her prints are all over the murder weapon. She didn’t do it, but no one believes her.

Especially not the pigheaded, infuriatingly hot lead detective investigating the case. On the contrary, she seems to have it out for Tennessee.

Tennessee knows she needs help, and she needs it fast. What she doesn’t know is that the ancestral spirit council is on the job. Which is probably for the best, since their last few missions have ended in disaster – and the odd, accidental death. (Sorry about that, Jane!)

The council dispatches a 20th century American tax expert and an 18th century British criminal to tackle the case. Whether the pair can put aside centuries of personal and cultural differences to save Tennessee is anyone’s guess.

But one thing’s for sure – Marshmeadow will never be the same after this ill-advised haunting!

A supernatural cozy mystery with outrageous shenanigans, cute dogs, found family, a slow burn lesbian romance, and an old, definitely haunted house full of secrets.

An interesting ghost mystery with some very funny characters.
Tennessee Evans gets help from some long dead relatives, when she becomes the main suspect in a murder.
I really enjoyed the story and the narration was excellent. I was hoping for a little more detail regarding the lesbian characters but I guess I will now have to download book 2.
Overall a great listen.

I enjoyed this book. I thought it was unusual for the main character to be obvious to the ghost presence but it actually worked well in the story and lead to some entertaining situations. The story is told by two characters, Tennessee whose ex is the one to be murdered and Raymond the ghost who along with his partner mostly follows the police detective around to learn what she knows and tries to protect Tennessee, like only a ghost can. This meant you always knew what was going on and what the characters were thinking and in the case of the ghosts what they were trying to do. I really liked the ghosts, the different personalities made them a great team and the banter kept you chuckling. The mystery was a real mystery with hidden rooms, missing dog, double dealing, betrayal and dead bodies which kept you guessing who was responsible. Despite there being a possible lesbian relationship in the works it was subtle and the story focused on the mystery. I look forward to the next book, especially as the author gave you a teaser of what is to come.

When Tennessee has a bad day and returns home from work early, things get a whole lot worse. She finds her ex girlfriend dead in her back garden and the house she inherited from her Grandmother tossed. This puts her under scrutiny from the police, especially as the dead woman stole her dog and her ghostly relatives decide she needs some ghostly help. After a debate Raymond a tax accountant in his professional life and Jack a ghost trying to stay out of purgatory for killing his grandmother for his inheritance are sent to protect her. It's a good thing the ancestral spirit council did because the killer doesn't seem to be finish and has there eyes set on something they think Tennessee has. Can the Ghosts keep Tennessee alive long enough for the detective to catcher a killer.
I liked the narrator. She gave the characters some interesting voices which just brought them to life, even the ghosts.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
