Summary

An absolutely gripping psychological thriller

When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair.

Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I will make him see that I'm still the woman he married; attractive, successful, the glue that holds our perfect family together. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own, something that would destroy everything I've already sacrificed so much for.

But when the police arrive at my door asking questions about Alex's death that I can't answer, and threatening text messages start appearing on my phone, I know that someone close has been watching me very carefully.

I loved that the main character, Anna, was a mess but deeply interesting, smart but also fallible - this doesn’t go where you think it’s going, and I loved the path it took to get there.

This had me gripped

Really enjoyed this book
Main character certainly is fallible but for me that also made her relatable - even if things do get rather intense! would recommend for lockdown escapism.

Original- kept me hooked!!

I wasn't sure about this book when I started it, but by chapter 3, I was into it. As the story progressed and things started going wrong, I was feeling really anxious as I listened, which must be a reflection of the writing skills of the author to make me feel that way! This is a book with a back story that's different to the norm, and a main character you're not sure whether to believe in or not, and is definitely worth a credit.

So well written it made me anxious when listening!

Frustrating because I spent so much of the book annoyed that a college associate maths professor could do so many dumb things ! Including how she continually questions why it’s necessary to understand how you arrive at a mathematical solution, and that it’s not enough to show the solution itself. We learnt this basic principle in UK maths class aged 10, so I don’t find it credible that this principle is a surprise to a college maths professor. If the main character had been better researched and showed occasional signs of intelligence, I’d have rated the book as a 5.

Definitely worth listening as the plot is very clever, in contrast to it’s mostly ditsy heroine. Great performance too.

Frustrating but definitely worth a credit !
