Story
From the author of the New York Times and international best seller Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop presents a no-holds-barred guide to breaking through our cycles of self-sabotage to get what we want out of life. In Unfu*k Yourself, Gary John Bishop told us it was time to stop making excuses - to recognise and take responsibility for the negative self-talk holding us back. In Stop Doing That Sh*t, he builds on that message, teaching us how to stop self-sabotaging behaviour. Bishop explains how our destructive cycles come down to the way we’re wired.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Summary
Unf*ck Yourself is the handbook for the resigned and defeated, a manifesto for real-life change and unleashing your true potential.
Have you ever felt like a hamster on a wheel, furiously churning your way through life but somehow going nowhere? Like the happiness you seek, the relationship you crave or the career you've always wanted are constantly out of reach? If the answer to these questions is yes, then you are a victim of your own self-doubt. And now is the time for you to unf--k yourself.
This is not the usual self-help book. This is blunt-force trauma to the way you think life has to be for you. Most importantly, it is designed to give you an authentic leg up - one that feels genuine and right for you and can propel you to new levels of greatness. It will teach you not to look to the outside world for answers but inside yourself. You will learn how to take full responsibility for your life, the highs and the lows, and you'll actually feel good about it - no, in fact, you'll feel f--king great about it!

Poor...
Full of americanisms, no real logical flow and although it says it’s “not like those woo woo books” it’s exactly like that!
There are a couple of truth bombs in there - 1) were all going to die so get on with living 2) Stop listening to your own crap and get on with it... saved you a couple of hours there!
It’s not great if I’m honest!

Concise, pithy, honest
I loved this book, it is quite contrarian in the self-help genre as it is honest.
There are some points I have some reservations about but on the whole, I agree with the premises that much of our experience is of our own making and that an honest self-appraisal will do us the world of good.
Not one to stoke the profitable victim-mindset, and no upselling (for conferences, etc) ultimately he is saying that you are the author of your own reality and that you should own it. There are zen-like moments which seem disturbing on the surface but on reflection actually bring peace.
I have read this book, particularly a few chapters several times now and it has inspired me to tackle a few issues, as a consequence I have inspired some positive action in a few others (mindset is contagious.) E.g. I was nervous about travel (money, safety, practicalities), however I have looked into the matter, prepared, and found out that in fact it is not only very affordable (less happy hours) but very achievable, and very enjoyable, somewhat empowering too. I’ve also got into Microadventures, others are following suite. A minor example but it paid to listen to this (almost on repeat) as opposed to the scaremongering, negativity, and fake news that abounds.
This is a small investment which even if it inspires one small new improvement or positive idea, is worth the 1-3 pints it cost.
I recommend it.

Usual self help nonsense heard a million times
The first thing which annoyed me were the Americanisms. The author is Scottish yet kept referring to 'touchdowns, superbowl, dollars, dow jones' and a host of many other Americanisms.
Such an obvious attempt to please where he wants his cors audience to be. Well, you're Scottish, mate - as am I - so stop being fake and be yourself.
Really though the worst thing was how he on multiple occasions claimed the book wasn't 'like every other self help woop woop' [sic] book, when in fact it's EXACTLY what it is.
Affirmations, believe in yourself, you're amazing - all the usual rubbish aimed at motivating you for 5 minutes with figurative high fives which try to fool you into thinking you've taken action just by reading it.
Absolutely avoid this paint by numbers, self help broken record and try an autobiography on or from someone who has actually done something with their life and is telling their story. Learn from examples, not 'yeah dude, you're awesome' bile like this.
Will be claiming a refund.

Was a decent enough listen but maybe lacked a bit of actual content and relied to much on quotes.

Good motivation but no substance
Unexplained quotes and general babble make this short book a bit rubbish. Overall a lot of the messages are great but the book feels a bit short and rushed.
