Lainey has just lost everything. Luckily one little fib (OK, quite a big fib) helps nail her dream job. Soon she's living in a stunning house by the sea, fending off obsessed fans for a retired - if far-from-retiring - actor and organising his charming but chaotic family. Yes, everyone thinks she's part of a couple, and it's tricky keeping this secret. But at least she's not looking for love: with her disastrous relationship history, men are definitely off the agenda.

They live 500 miles apart. Yet their lives are about to collide. Lissa loves her job as a nurse, but recently she's been doing a better job of looking after other people than looking after herself. Story
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Where the Light Gets In by Lucy Dillon. 'You know those cracks in your heart, Lorna, where things didn’t work out, but you picked yourself up and carried on? That’s where the fear gets out. And where the light gets in.' It was Betty, defiant to the end, who sent Lorna back to Longhampton. If Lorna’s learned one thing from Betty, it’s that courage is something you paint on like red lipstick, even when you’re panicking inside. And right now, with the keys to the town’s gallery in her hand, Lorna feels about as courageous as Betty’s anxious little dachshund trembling beside her.

Story
All Marnie wants is somewhere to call home. Mourning lost years spent in a marriage that has finally come to an end, she needs a fresh start and time to heal. Things she hopes to find in the rural west Lancashire village her mother always told her about. With nothing but her two green thumbs, Marnie takes a job as a gardener, which comes with a little cottage to make her own. The garden is beautiful - filled with roses, lavender and honeysuckle - and only a little rough around the edges. Which is more than can be said for her next-door neighbour, Ned Mars.

Accents
I just cannot listen to this book any more due to the appalling accents. Is the father Irish or Scottish? I spent so much time shouting at the radio in the car yesterday because his accent was Irish one minute and Scottish the next. Sorry, I might just have to read the book rather than listen to it which is a real shame.

Cringeworthy
The cringe-meter peaked as this sickly tale progressed into the second half. What started off promising, (I’ve enjoyed plenty of this author before), turned into a vom-inducing cringe-fest. I just kept wondering if the main character who was supposed to be an adult woman was maybe actually 15 years old. Just dreadful.

Outstandingly Fantastic
I loved every second of this book! Nobody writes like Lucy Dillon! I laughed out loud several times and cried a few times too. Fantastic, original storyline with amazing characters. I loved the main character. A very well-written book with some unexpected twists. Really excellent narration, the voice artist is brilliant at accents and voices! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, one of my new favourites! I can’t wait for her next book! Keep writing Lucy, you are wonderfully talented! <3

Sweet but not too sugary.
A gentle entertaining story, fairly predictable but I enjoyed it none the less. Perfect as a palette cleanser or one to grab if you’re not in the mood for anything too heavy, but don’t want pure fluff! The narrator reads beautifully in her own voice but struggles with some accents, including the main character, at times. Bad accents are a particular bug bare of mine though, and I’ve listened to worse to be fair! All in all a very pleasant listen, a good one for dog lovers too!
