About this listen

This is Going to Hurt was the publishing phenomenon of the century, read by many millions, loved by at least fifty of them, and adapted into a major TV series. But it was only part of the story.

By turns hilarious, heartbreaking and humbling, Undoctored is about what happens when a doctor hangs up his scrubs, but medicine refuses to let go of him.

It's about an extraordinary medical school education.
It's about opening old wounds and examining the present-day scars.
It's about hospital admissions and personal ones.
It's about blowing up your life and stitching it back together.
It's about being a doctor and being a patient.
It's about 300 pages long.

Undoctored is Adam Kay's funniest and most moving book yet - an astonishing portrait of a life in and out of medicine, from one of Britain's finest storytellers.

This unabridged audio download, narrated by the author, features extra diary entries recorded in audio for the first time, and an audiobook exclusive interview with bestselling author and broadcaster The Reverend Richard Coles.

I wasn't sure about this beforehand, and feared it might feel a bit forced after the success of his original book. But I really enjoyed it, perhaps even more so given the variation in topics.

Editing-wise, there are some weirdly long gaps between sentences, particularly at the start, but listening on 1.1 speed made it less noticeable.

Another funny, poignant, fascinating and thought provoking book by Adam Kay - I enjoyed this as much as, if not even more, than his first two books written for adults. Excellent narration too. Highly recommend!

Honest, funny, self deprecating, witty and deeply human! I laughed a lot listening to this whilst on the tube so got plenty of weird looks. Totally worth it!

His best book so far!

first and foremost this is one of the most honest books that Adam Kay has done. I dread to think of all the stuff he didn't put in this book and what other fellow junior doctors are going through on a day-to-day basis let alone through the pandemic. to anyone that thinks that this book isn't worth a listen to number one your stupid. 2 to it is a book that is worth reading / listening because you can hear especially audio version of this book, how much pain and trauma that even though Adam himself by the time this book come without he does then he hasn't practised medicine for nearly 12 years. but how it affects him even to this day day.and especially the bit at the end when he's with the reverend, it might just be me but I could hear his voice breaking and hear that pain and I hope it's not tortured by especially that dream earlier on in the book. and especially loved the book where he's trying to change medical heads minds that there doctors and nurses anyone in that profession they're not robots they are human beings with feelings and limits. that's even though the hospitals a GPS anywhere medical profession needs to take more more notice of the staff, health and well-being. I've read or listened to all of Adam books and I'm still shocked at how much more horrors they are in the NHS that need to be addressed. why cannot it be seen why the back of the problems in the country. where they aren't the problems it's the problems with the powers that be that believe that there are robots and we can work them to death do this do that. I don't know I don't know if you read this comment but but I think you are very brave to advocate all the medical profession and that you are still fighting to change everything standard healthcare for staff as well as their own mental problems to be addressed not to shove it under the carpet. I applaud you on this. add encourage anyone to read this book or listen because it is a real eye opener keep on writing Adam like the reverend said you're still leaving stuff out, and I can't wait to hear or listen to them.
