A five-thousand-year-old woman who has outlived empires and a doctor who's spent his life fighting death collide in this novella from New York Times bestselling author Ali Hazelwood.

Lilit of Nineveh has spent millennia in control. As a powerful revenant, she enforces one rule above all: protect mortals. Disciplined and focused, she has never made the same mistake twice, and she has learned that attachments can only lead to ruin.

Enter Roman Martin. An overworked and relentlessly kind ER physician, he is the one mortal Lilit cannot quit. Any relationship between them is against everything Lilit has fought for. Still, she keeps coming back to him.

Until someone starts hunting Lilit, and Roman is caught in the crossfire. When everything comes crashing down, Lilit must choose between the world she has sworn to protect and the man she was never meant to love.

It really upsets me when Ali writes short stories because I keep wanting more, this needed to be longer!

PLEASE ALI

The story was good though not as good as Bound. The narrators voice was pleasant and clear but seemed to not know how to pronounce some words that kept jarring me (iron and sew being 2 that stuck most). That being said it wasn't open enough to detract from the experience and it might fit with the character so not sure if it was on purpose.

Overall enjoyable

Never met an AH book I didn't like, and this one doesn't disappoint 😁

Another cracker from Ali Hazelwood

Parts of the audio have very obviously been re-recorded at low quality and spliced back it. If listening with headphones, you’ll hear the volume jump all over the place. Very poor narration with actors unable to stay in accent they’re putting on. Honestly ruined the listening experience for me.

One of the worst narrations of all time

It’s very obvious that parts of the story have been spliced in after either being re-recorded or generated with AI - this is really offputting and I would not recommend the audiobook based on this. The actual story is great as always with Ali Hazelwood.

Subpar recording, good story
