About this listen

Hot Wash, noun: the review held after military training and real-world operations facilitating growth and improvement; an honest evaluation of strengths and weaknesses

As a special operator in the US Navy’s most elite unit and actively engaged in the global war on terrorism, Eddie Penney had achieved his childhood dream. He was the tip of the nation’s spear, prepared for anything—except for becoming a single parent of three young children. Eddie learned powerful lessons from the roles of warrior and father. In Unafraid, he shares his story, insight gained, and the truths exposed when you reflect, regroup, and commit to personal growth. You’ll hear about life as a Navy SEAL and the adolescent aspirations that led Eddie toward a military life, as well as the painful challenges that left him a single father with sole custody. You’ll learn that old wounds—both seen and unseen—can heal, and redemption is always possible. Whether these struggles feel familiar or you’re searching for inspiration, Unafraid is a must-have memoir revealing that each of us has a warrior within.

An excellent honest biography, highly recommend. Warts and all, can particularly relate as a British veteran.

Thought Provoking

Having heard all the other seal biographies, I may have give this one a miss until I saw the fella on Shawn Ryan's podcast, hearing him read through the more traumatic aspects of his life is heart rendering to be honest, a bold and honest telling of the a life in combat and parenthood. I challenge you not to choke.

Brutally honest, forthright and heartfelt.

One of the most emotional journeys I’ve been taken on whilst listening to a book. A truly powerful life story that is read with such genuine feeling that even though I have never been in a situation anything like those described, I was right there.

A must listen for anyone who enjoys true tales of heroism both on and especially off the battlefield.

Powerful and emotional

Up until chapter ‘Lima’, this was a pretty good ‘team 6’ bad guy zapping seal biog. But unfortunately the author decided to narrate this himself and is subject to bouts of sobbing about lost team mates (which is understandable) but when the blubbering about finding god and his kids and signs from god continued over 12 chapters, I think I began to lose my faith.
Strong start. Holy boring and self indulgent finish. Better off listening to ‘the operator’.
