'Moving and insightful' - Rosanna Davison
Remarkably honest, brutally heroic and darkly humorous memoir following a devastating diagnosis of early onset Parkinson's disease.
Twitch is a frank and funny memoir about picking up the pieces when personal tragedy hits. In 2021, Irish Examiner columnist, stylist, author and podcaster Annmarie O'Connor was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson's disease, an incurable neurodegenerative condition broadly affecting movement and mental health. Though she is no longer working as a stylist as part of her career due to Parkinson's complications, Twitch outlines her journey from a life-altering diagnosis to becoming an activist and agent of change.

This book is narrated by Annmarie, the author - and she has a voice like a soothing chocolate drink. You could listen to her all day and if the book writing career doesn’t take off, a professional voice over career should!!
I really enjoyed the pace of the book - it was uplifting, tragic, sad, and really laugh out loud funny. I listened to the book on my way to see my Parkinson’s patients at their home and then travelling back to my home , and I wish I brought some fresh mascara as one point it was half way down my face!
I loved it all . It really demonstrated in detail how the author lives with Parkinson’s, and it’s very informative and accurate on the details too. Lived that she gave a name check to her Parkinson’s nurse Lisa too!
I look forward to more books from this author.
A great insight into living with Parkinson’s

It’s beautifully narrated by the author herself, Annmarie O’Connor, in that lovely mid-Atlantic lilt of hers — a voice that dances somewhere between Cork and New York. The story, while often humorous, charts her brave and at times arduous journey after being diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s.
Annmarie’s mission is clear: to strip away the stigma, spark honest conversation, and help others feel a little less alone when facing the realities of chronic illness. She reminds us, too, of the importance of leaning on our people — family, doctors, and the wider community — as we find our footing through life’s tougher chapters.
I can’t recommend this book enough for anyone touched, directly or indirectly, by Parkinson’s. It’s a story of courage, wit, and the indomitable Irish spirit that refuses to be quieted.
