About this listen
From the internationally best-selling author of Beetle Boy and the Adventures on Trains series comes the first book in The Twitchers, a brand-new mystery-adventure series celebrating friendship, bravery and the incredible world of birds, starring a birdwatching detective called Twitch!
Can a birdwatcher outwit an escaped convict?
Twitch has three pet chickens, four pigeons, swallows nesting in his bedroom and a passion for bird-spotting. On the first day of the summer holidays, he arrives at his secret birdwatching hide to find police everywhere: a convicted robber has broken out of prison and is hiding in Aves Wood. Can Twitch use his talents for bird-spotting to hunt for the dangerous prisoner and find the missing loot?

Simply the best book series I’ve ever read.

I absolutely fell in love with this book, which is a rare occurrence (fewer than ten books have captured my heart in this way, and none of the others are children's books). It made me feel like it was summer, and brought me such hope for the future.
To see a book about a friendship between two boys, bonding over an activity that isn't coded as masculine by society, where one of those boys is able to push past the toxic masculinitIy that's already taking hold of him - it felt powerful, beautiful and hopeful.
The characters were so endearing, any one of them could be your favourite (though mine were definitely Jack and the next door neighbour).
It's also really encouraging to read a book where children are interacting so meaningfully and intentionally with nature. I absolutely love insects, and feel a hyper fixation on birds is now on the horizon.
Thank you to M G Leonard for both writing and reading this beautiful story, I'm so excited to read more by you.
