Summary

Spoiled young rich boy, Scott Roberts always got what he wanted, and if he didn't, he took it on his own. One exception to that rule was Lizzie Howard, Scott's girlfriend. She had come to him willingly and was the one person he counted on. On the night they were to go to prom together, Scott sees Lizzie with another man, and feels completely devastated and betrayed.

One reckless drive home costs Scott his life. Consumed by his anger and conditioned by his privileged mortal existence, Scott forsakes Heaven and instead allows himself to be lured away from the light by the mysterious dark one.

Whispering promises of revenge and power, Lord Icarus recruits Scott to help other bitter spirits seek their own revenge. But with each act of retribution, Scott begins to see that the "promises" Icarus has made to him, are not quite what he believed them to be. In danger of losing his mortal soul, can Scott battle the evil dark one and win or will he be forever destined to hell?

Original story with a good ending

Overall I enjoyed this book, the story was original and really interested me.
Scott was selfish as a human but when he dies, he has the chance to seek revenge on those that wronged him rather than settle into the afterlife. However all is not what it seems and as his powers grow so does his realisation that he's been lied to.
The book was bit too long for my liking, I think some bits were over explained or much longer than they needed to be, but I did enjoy the ending.
I enjoyed the narrator, Irish accents can be hit or miss with me but I liked Andrew's voice. It was well read and I could identify all the different voice of the characters.

Great book

I had a hard time putting my device down. This was a great book. The narrator did a great job on the story. The story is very well written. I felt so many emotions throughout this story. My feelings for characters changing throughout the story. I love when a book draws your emotions into the story. The author is a great writer and I’m looking forward to more. This was a wonderful listen and I highly recommend.

Don't quit before it really starts!!

I almost did, everything about the main character irked me. I almost felt like moving on to a different story but I'm glad I didn't. After a few chapters it all started working out and I ended up really enjoying it! Narration really fit as well, curious where it leads

Big decisions ⚖️

Different PN story. The story of a young privileged, bitter, man that makes a fatal mistake one night after he thinks he was betrayed. Now he has the decisions for others who are looking for revenge and the biggest decision is his own soul.
Andrew McDermott is a new to me narrator, but I enjoyed his Irish lilt.
Gifted this audible book for a fair and honest review.

Dull Story Saved By A Great Narrator

I could not get into this story. It moved very slowly for me and I could not connect with the characters. I found my thoughts drifting off to other things. Honestly, I had to stop half way through and move on to a different story.

Even though the story was dull, narrator, Andrew McDermott, gave a great performance, as usual. I have listened to several of his books. His voice is always calm and soothing to me. He does a great job with speed, tone and enunciation. I do question the choice of using a narrator with an Irish accent for a book initially set in America. I was able to put that out of my mind, though, since the majority of the story is set in the “after-life” realm.
