About this listen
Amber is the werebear daughter to the chief of her clan. She is considered the clan's princess and has already been promised to Koda another werebear in her clan who is next in line to be chief. Amber is against her father's archaic ideologies, and she constantly rebels against his rules and sneaks away. On the night she went for a run, she comes upon a river and encounters an awfully friendly cougar who she just thinks is a sweet kitty.
Mark is a widowed werecougar who lives alone. His only companion is his best friend, werebear Danny.
The two have been by each other's sides for centuries, always looking out for one another like brothers. Mark is riddled with grief and sadness over the murder of his wife and children over two centuries ago. He's never allowed himself to move on or feel anything for anybody until one day, while at his river, he comes face to face with a bear.
For almost 200 years, I’ve kept to myself. And then there she was.
They might be from different species, but they prove that nothing can keep you apart from your fated mate.
Will she leave her clan and her betrothed to be loved by her werecougar forever?

Amber is a werebear, but her father, the leader of their clan, is overprotective and treats her like a teenager even though she is 23. She is desperate to enjoy her life without being confined to her bedroom or promised to the next clan leader, Koda.
Mark is a werecougar, a widower and 200+ years old. Reigned to spend the rest of his life with his cat and best friend, until he meets Amber.
There is an instant attraction, but all the pack politics and the appearance of hunters makes it hard for them to be together. I loved the name game they had going on.
I felt really sorry for Koda, he did everything he could but it just wasn't enough. I liked that the author didn't make him a bad guy.
This is a standalone with a HEA.The narrator was easy to listen to and I enjoyed the slightly different voices for the characters.
Easy story to follow and listen to

Without a doubt worth reading, this is the first book I have read by Valerie Moon and I couldn't put it down. The book had good pace, and was full of interesting characters. Amber is a werebear, but even though she is 23 years old, her father, the head of their clan, is too protective and treats her like a little child. She longs to live a life free of confinement to her bedroom and engagement to Koda, the next clan chief.
Mark is a werecougar who has been widowed for over 200 years. Until he met Amber, reigned that he would live out the rest of his days with his cat and closest friend.
Although there is an immediate attraction between them, being together is difficult due to pack politics and the appearance of hunters. Plenty of action and drama in this book.
Great start to the series!
