About this listen

Matt Beckford's sole ambition is to turn forty with his life sorted. With a Porsche on the drive and a high-flying job, it looks like things are perfect.

Great book about how your life can change so quickly. I’m going through a similar thing now so really resonated.

Loved it!

Where does Turning Forty rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a great light read about a guy reluctantly entering his fortieth year. From a happy married life with a great paying job, his whole life changes. This is how he works towards managing his impending "adulthood" and change of circumstances. Some happy and funny moments.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Turning Forty?

The great finish.

What three words best describe Matt Bates’s performance?

Well read, you just thought the guy was talking to you.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

It could be so much worse, but you didn't know it at the time.

Any additional comments?

Great beach read for men or women.

Great summer read

I am afraid I found the main character utterly pathetic and annoying..needs to grow up and stop thinking the world owes him a living...

Disappointing

Loved the story and characters and the narrator was just amazing and what a great first book to introduce myself to Mike Gayle and his wonderful writing.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The story flowed well and listening to a mans story of coping with a break up and heading for a milestone birthday is unusual but worked really well.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character was my favourite (note English spelling). His emotions and thoughts seemed real and believable.

What about Matt Bates’s performance did you like?

The narration was excellent. Clear, good use of voices and flow was good.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Parts did make me SALTS (smile a little then stopped). Humour was good.

Any additional comments?

A nice alternative to a woman in the same situation.
