NYT and USA Today Bestselling author Kaylee Ryan brings you a new standalone series set in a small town, surrounding four sisters. Trying Not to Love You is a small-town, second-chance, first-love, ex-military romance.

Ellison

Copeland James was my first love, my first heartbreak, my first everything.

Then he left without explanation, and never came back.

My sisters and our closest friends helped me pick up the pieces, but my heart hasn’t been whole since the day he walked out of Magnolia Ridge.

I’ve learned to live with what could have been… until his mother’s illness brings him back to our small town. He’s older, harder, and more magnetic than I remember.

He’s a man now. The man I learned to live without. And yet, he’s back, stirring everything I thought I’d buried, making my world feel unsteady.

Because loving him nearly destroyed me… and now, I’m still trying not to love him.

Copeland

I left Magnolia Ridge with nothing but a duffel bag and a decision.

I told myself joining the Marines was the right choice. That loving her meant protecting her, and this was the way to do it.

I was wrong.

Now I’m back, years later, and she’s just as breathtaking as the day I left. All these years, I imagined she’d have moved on, married someone else, but she’s still single, and in my heart, she’s still mine.

But Ellison doesn’t see me the way I see her, not anymore. All I find in her eyes is the wound I left behind. The one that never healed.

I didn’t fight for us back then, but I’ve learned. Now I’m ready for battle, fighting for what we could be while she tries not to love me.

Kaylee Ryan welcomes you to Magnolia Ridge with a fabulous start to her new “Moran Sisters” series, and what a start it is — a wonderful small-town second-chance romance that captivates your attention and tugs are your heartstrings the entire time. “Trying Not to Love You” is Ellison and Copeland James’ story, and the two were in love and had plans for their lives, that was until he enlisted and walked out of her life, leaving her with nothing but a broken heart, and no explanation at all. The sisters were always close, but after their tragic loss, it bonded them even further. Years later. Ellison continues to run the family business, and as much as she tried, she never got over Copeland. Copeland had only planned on serving in the Marines for four years, but he upped his service and after seventeen years he decided it was time to go home, he already decided he was leaving the service, but his mother’s diagnosis expedited the time. He knew it was going to be hard to see that Ellison had moved on with someone else, and knowing his younger self had made the wrong decision regarding her made it hurt even more. Copeland’s mother insisted there was no room for him to stay in his childhood home, so he needed to book a room at the Inn, the one Ellison ran. It was great watching these two reacquaint themselves, she with resistance because she could not fall for him and survive another heartbreak when he left again. Except he had no intention of doing that because he was going to win her back, his first love, his only love. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions, and a sweet second chance romance, a meaningful love that ran deep. Kaylee Ryan’s writing, plot, and world-building are fantastic, as are the complexity of the characters, their development, and growth too. Thank you for this amazing and wonderfully entertaining story and the emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧Kaylee Ryan cast the perfect narrators to bring her characters to life: Connor Crais and Savannah Peachwood, and they delivered an incredible performance in duet. Their character voices are fitting for the perfect portrayal of each, and they were believable in every role. They embodied their roles completely, grasping every facet of their personalities, with Crais nailing it as Copeland and Peachwood as Ellison, and together they captured the chemistry between them. Both were just as fabulous performing the roles of all the side/secondary characters too. Their expressive delivery conveys all the characters’ emotions, making you feel each one. These two are a fantastic narration team, with voices and talent that complement each other and an enthralling performance that not only keeps you hooked to the story, but they take the already wonderful story to another level.

Connor & Savannah are the perfect voices for Copeland & Ellison. They bring the story more alive. They bring the picture more alive throughout the story.
Copeland James, oh boyyy… he’s a broken hearted military hero. Coming back to the town he grew up in, to be there for his sick mother. With his high school sweetheart living so close by.
Ellison Moran, the eldest Moran sister. The Moran sisters have such an amazing bond and are close. They are more than just sisters, they are each other’s best friends.
Im totally obsessed with Cope & Ellison. There is so much heartbreak and misunderstanding between them. Both believing the wrong thing that happen when Cope joined the military.
Cope’s mother, she’s such a little sweetheart, battling her health and getting ready for the biggest fight of her life and she’s still playing match maker, throwing Cope & Ellison together.
Both never moved on from each other. And still have so much love for one another.
I didn’t want their story to end. But boy, I’m so happy with every single second of the beautiful journey.

This was such a heartwarming story and beautifully narrated by savannah peachwood and Connor Crais

Heartwarming story

Savannah Peachwood talks like an annoying baby throughout the entire book. It’s so distracting as she talks extra slow and trying to sound so sickly sweet it’s ruins the performance of the story. Connor is great and the storyline is great, but my word her performance was awful.

Savannah Peachwood ruined this story

Ellison has always loved Copleand and was devastated when he left with no explanation or contact. In the years since she has tried to move forward with her life, but he has always owned her heart. When his mother is ill he leaves the Marines and returns to his hometown and while Ellison will be there for him and his family she is going to protect her heart which has never healed.

Years earlier Copeland made a decision out of love that caused a rift between him and Ellison that broke both their hearts. He returned home to be there for him family but seeing Ellison again will force them to face the past and he is determined to win back the heart of the only woman he has ever loved.

Ellison and Copeland are soulmates despite the time and distance that separating them. You can feel the emotional pull from their reunion and it only increases as they spend time together and Ellison learns to trust that she can count on Copeland to be there for her. Connor Crais does a wonderful job of portraying both the regrets he has and his determination while Savannah Peachwood brings all the feels from heartbreak to a love that was always destined to be.
