Thank you for a book that opened my eyes to something I never knew. The story had to be told. It took me all my holiday to listen too. It saddened me but also gladden me to know their story is now out there. I wish all survivors well and their story will stay in my heart ❤️

I read this for the first time as a child while I was going through a traumatic time. While its a story of love, loss and trauma..it helped me. Everything was as I remember. It sparks the imagination and every part of the story was in my mind just as it was the first time. The gardens of the sacred heart, the blistering heat of Dulcies first job in Australia and my minds image of her baking in the kitchen at Pats. It was an escape for me then. This time as an adult I was able to be more thoughtful about the children of Bindoon and other orphanages and think of ways I can educate myself, not forgetting the history of aboriginal Australians who had their home colonised. Some of my family were £10 poms, promised a new wonderful life. This book felt like going home as it was such a good reminder of reading it as a child for escapism.

This was by far the best book i’ve ever listened too. The story was both sad, yet uplifting too, a book than can make me cry while listening to it, must be good
