About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Attempting to rebuild her shattered life in the South of France, former MI6 operative Kate Henderson receives an unexpected and most unwelcome visit from an old adversary: the UK Prime Minister. He has an extraordinary story to tell - and he needs her help.

A Russian agent has come forward with news that the PM has been the victim of the greatest misinformation play in the history of MI6. It's run out of a special KGB unit that exists for one purpose alone: to process the intelligence from 'Agent Dante', a mole right at the heart of MI6 in London.

Against her better judgement, Kate is forced back into the fray in a top-secret, deeply flawed and dangerous investigation. But now she's damaged goods. Her one-time allies no longer trust her. And neither do her enemies.

With the stakes this high, can the truth ever come out? Or is the cost of uncovering it a price that no one, least of all Kate, can afford to pay?

Critic reviews

Tom Bradby knows how to write a thriller...the best of the series so far
The plot twists and turns with vigour ... the climax is nail-biting
Bradby's blend of le Carre espionage yarn with Michael Dobbs political thriller is a nifty and appealing concoction

I had been really looking forward to to the third instalment of this MI6 thriller and Tom Bradby certainly did not disappoint. Please read them in sequence otherwise you will not gain the full benefit of the series. The characterisation, spycraft and plot twists were all satisfying as was the ending. I won't give it away as half the fun is trying to sift the red herrings from the multiple candidates for MI6 super mole. The reading by Juliet Aubrey was first rate and I look forward to Kate Henderson taking on new challenges, maybe in SE Asia...

Great, well written and gripping

Tom Bradby weaves the plot well with some surprises. Parts quite long drawn out.
Narrator not v impressive. Voice drops and is sometimes not clear. Accents not convincing and therefore a distraction, especially Scot’s and Mancunian.

Good story

A superb finale to the trilogy. I guessed the identity of Dante with a few chapters to go but, as with story’s main character, my self doubt wouldn’t allow me to be certain. A well constructed and finely crafted espionage tale. Very enjoyable.

A gripping journey through the wilderness of mirrors.

Having read the first two books in the series, I decided to go for the audio option for the latest and last one. The narrator was a perfect choice. Story was gripping, and the unravelling excellent. I hope there is the opportunity for more.
