Summary

Randall Drew is prevented from carrying on with his career in steeplechasing by poor eyesight. Restless and unsure of his future but pursuing an ardent love affair, he does not welcome an invitation to go to Moscow on a delicate investigation, but irresistible pressure is hard to refuse.

A mysterious entity, "Alyosha", is threatening a royally-connected candidate for the Moscow Olympic Games; the candidate may be vulnerable to scandal which could set off intolerable diplomatic conflicts.

The brief is vague, the opposition invisible. And the stakes appallingly high.

You have to wait for the end

As a huge fan of Dick Francis and Tony Britton, I found this one difficult to get into. It makes sense at the end, but you have to keep hanging on in there.

Interesting characters and setting.

What did you love best about Trial Run?

The descriptions of how cautious Russians must be in their interactions with foreigners were very well done.As always, Dick Francis writes well and the pace is absorbing.

He brings his characters to life so well.

Dick Francis

Dick Francis is one of the most amazing writers. Always suspenseful and enjoyable stories this is like every other Story he writes very fun to listen to. The plot is a little simpler than some of his stories and some of the loose ends are left dangling. Towards the end it feels like he just tried to wrap the story up. It is a very enjoyable story, probably not his best but still worth listening to. Tony Britton is one of the best readers I have ever heard I always enjoy listening to a.m.
