Are you weary? Worn out by the bills that keep stacking, a virus that keeps raging, or a heart that keeps aching? If so, the book of Esther brings welcome news: Relief will come! To be clear, you didn't ask for this struggle. You want to get past it. You don't know how much longer you can hold up. But what if God is with you in this difficult season? When life seems off the rails, remember this truth: the minute you bow your head to pray is the moment God lifts his hand to help.

A joy that can't be quenched? A peace that can't be broken? A happiness that can't be threatened? There is such a joy. It is a sacred delight, a holy gladness. You can't open your Bible without reading about it. You can't live a truly satisfying life without it. And it's nearer than you think. Jesus describes that sacred delight in the astonishing mountain message we call the Beatitudes. And Max Lucado, in this classic exploration of enduring joy, shows you how this familiar but revolutionary prescription for living can bless your life beyond your wildest imagining.

Common people. Maybe you heard their names in a childhood Sunday school class. They're not often the champions or the go-to sermon illustrations. They probably didn't stand at the foot of the cross or even hang next to Jesus on one of their own. But they pepper the pages of the Bible, reminding us that we're not alone. Just like you and me, these ordinary people stumbled and struggled. They faced their own sin and came face-to-face with a God who not only wipes it away, but also makes the common extraordinary.

Story
How long has your Goliath stalked you? Invaded your first thought of the morning and last worry of the night? David knows a little something about facing giants. The shepherd boy seemingly had little to offer against the nine-foot, nine-inch Goliath. You could read his story and wonder what God saw in him. Throughout his life, David fell as often as he stood, stumbled as often as he conquered. But for those who know the threat of a Goliath, David gives this reminder: Focus on giants — you stumble. Focus on God — your giants tumble.

Summary
Weary travelers. You've seen them - everything they own crammed into their luggage. Staggering through terminals and hotel lobbies with overstuffed suitcases, trunks, duffels, and backpacks. Backs ache. Feet burn. Eyelids droop. We've all seen people like that. At times we are people like that - if not with our physical luggage then at least with our spiritual load. We all lug loads we were never intended to carry. Fear. Worry. Discontent. No wonder we get so weary. We're worn out from carrying that excess baggage. Wouldn't it be nice to lose some of those bags?
That's the invitation of Max Lucado. With the Twenty-Third Psalm as our guide, let's release some of the burdens we were never intended to bear. Using these verses as a guide, Max Lucado walks us through a helpful inventory of our burdens. May God use this psalm to remind you to release the burdens you were never meant to bear.

Excellent thoughts on Psalm 23!
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Max Lucado years ago and now with audio books I am delving back into his works and getting caught up. He has a way of giving understandable examples from life to explain some of the deeper truths in scripture. I plan to try to get my wife and son to read this book now too.

Great Book and Great Listen
I always thought Psalm 23 was a calming psalm and I often say it before I go to bed at night, after the Lord's prayer. After reading this book, Traveling Light, my eyes have been opened to Psalm 23 being a psalm that is meant to lead you through day to day life. Mr. Lucado uses each verse of Psalm 23 and applies it to day to day struggles to show you how you can use this Psalm to address day to day worries, concerns. Showing you that David wrote this to honor God in his life and thank Him for shepherding him. David is thanking God for being his shepherd. The narration is wonderful.

A new understanding of Psalm 23 .
I used to have a feeling that Psalm 23 was something you only heard at funerals, that the passages had to do with death . But I learned through this book about how much it has to do with life .
Max Lucado lead me through various emotions on the way to the conclusion . I have an entirely different viewpoint of this psalm now , as it now leads to hope and joy, with the discarding of the baggage of this world .

The Care of the Shepherd
Many of us know Psalm 23 by heart. We can cite verses that are comforting but do we always know the significance of the verse. Understanding the power of the oil in and on a sheep’s nose and head was eye opening. Then I understood how the Good Shepherd has done and does the same for me. Enlightening. Comforting. Lifts burdens and anxieties making travel light.

The best audio book I’ve ever listened to!
I’ve always been a fan of Max Lucado. I ordered the paperback and when the audio book was offered I decided egrab it. My paperback hadn’t even shown up yet and I finished mother’s audio version. It was so well written, as I knew it would be, and the narration was great. I aspire to write a book that deals with such a heavy subject in a light and entertaining manner one day. A true joy to listen to and I know I will read the paperback too. Thank you Max for such a wonderful gift in this book.

A good listen if you need repetition of a theme
What would have made Traveling Light better?
The book would have been better served by moving beyond a few very simple Christian concepts that were repeated over and over with just a slightly different shade of description. Yeah. I "got it" after the first three or four tmies. There are much better books that center on the teachings of Psalm 23. This one was too elementary for anyone who has had more than a passing glance at Biblical study... even who might have only halfway paid attention in Sunday School.
Would you ever listen to anything by Max Lucado again?
No. I felt as if this was too much of an absolute beginners' book on living by Christian concepts. As "Chicken Soup" goes... this one was watered down too much for me to try another taste.
Have you listened to any of Ben Holland’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not, yet I did enjoy his performance, even if the content was not to my liking. I would definitely listen to another book read by him, without prejudice.
What character would you cut from Traveling Light?
The condescending narrator? (The written narrator, NOT the performer.)
Any additional comments?
I will mark this one up to Lucado being such a great seller that it's worth listening to at least one of his books (I've never read one in print, either.) Unfortunately, I was not able to finish this one: it was just too Nursery School level of teaching for my own level of Christian/Biblical education. I suppose it would be nice to have these Inspirational type books come with some sort of "Spiritual Age of the Reader" warning. ;)

extremely encouraging and inspirational
First of all, the narrator was excellent at reading the story. The narrator kept you on edge, always wanting more and because of the books encouraging and inspirational tone and message... I found a thrill and yarning to really look back at myself and see all the baggage that I carried and still carry. I examined my issues and saw new ways that God is working in my life.
And one of my favorite parts of this book... (was close to the end) when the author wrote as you prepare to leave this world, due to sickness etc. The angels grow excited preparing you place in heaven and say "There's another one coming home".
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful read and example of: Faith, Encouragement and Hope, written and read with a whole lot of LOVE!
