The night uncovers all we wish not to see. A troubled man enters a dusky park before sunset. A young woman follows, hidden in shadow. Both have returned to the park to take back something the past has stolen from them, to make right six long years of suffering, and to find justice or perhaps redemption - or maybe they'll settle for some old-fashioned revenge. But something evil is alive and awake in those woods, creatures that care nothing for human motivations. They’re driven by their own insatiable need: a ravenous, bottomless hunger.

Story
I have a simple arrangement with the Faerie Court: I track down the beings they want found and in exchange for that, they let me live. But a girl's gotta eat, even a banished banshee, so I do what I have to, even if that means working for humans. Rent money doesn't grow on trees. Darcey Thorne is one of the last of her kind-a banshee, harbinger of death - but due to a past indiscretion which saw her imprison her ex-lover, she now works as a bounty hunter for the Faerie Court. When the Court jerks her chain and tells her to hunt down MacNa, an old friend, Darcey has to obey.
Summary
Welcome to Arlington Asylum, a place where the insane and the forgotten are brought to die
Adrian James is running from his past with nothing left to live for. At rock bottom, with a blade to his wrist, a mysterious stranger intervenes and offers him a chance at salvation.
Adrian accepts, and he enters Arlington Asylum of his own free will. Once inside, however, he soon learns that he will never escape. And worse, there are strange experiments taking place here, and a secretive medicine is being administered, one that causes certain…changes…in the patients.
The insidious secrets within the halls of Arlington Asylum are slowly revealed, and it is beyond anything Adrian could have possibly imagined. A literal hell is unleashed as impossible and terrifying creatures indulge their sadistic desires.
Adrian and his friends must escape this nightmarish place and warn the outside world before it’s too late, but they must face down the demons of hell to do so.
Tormented is a gruesome and violent horror story, influenced by such greats as John Carpenter’s The Thing, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, and Jeremy Gillespie’s The Void.
Do you dare enter the Asylum?

Great story
I liked this one, I liked it a lot, it's no great classic but it's original and it's best characters may all be locked up in an asylum but they have a lot more about them than some of Lee's characters, they struggle, they fight for their freedom and I was even hoping the obnoxious Seymour would escape because these characters had been given life and I was rooting for them.
Mr Hills does a grand job of narrating as usual with the exception of the irritating 'end' sound for the word 'and', also I noted that the word please when shouted becomes more like 'pease' which was also irritating but he is easy to listen to and does a pretty sterling job mostly.

I'm not sure if I really enjoyed this 📖 because of the story line it's just a bit to far fetched for me I mean c'mon a demon who's blood is injected into people who have committed murder put in a loony bin and turned into demon's hmm 🤔 couldn't get my head round that sadly Hopefully I'll find a better horror story next time

One Flew East One Flew West
I am a big fan of Lee Mountford’s Supernatural Horror Series and since I have seen him progress as an author and continue to up the ante on his horror stories, I wanted to go back to some of his earlier work. I didn’t find this book to be as dark as his later stories and think he could have really pushed the envelope a bit more with the cruel experiments and daily abuse without the need to go to gore to satisfy the horror element.
I think the asylum type story is a difficult one to really nail perfectly since there is so many ways it can easily go off the rails. While this definitely has a monster type aspect to the story, the horror of being in an asylum with lunatics, both staff and patients, is really the tormenting part. The supernatural demonic aspects were good, but only as they provided another level of horror to the already claustrophobic feel of being locked up with nightmares. I felt that was more of a means to an end versus the actual end. Speaking of endings, didn’t see that coming.
Mountford does a great job of getting you to understand the fear and emotions his characters are feeling. The story is no different and to me it is those character's behavior and their respective development that was one of the best parts of the story. I really liked their different personalities and the back story that got them committed to the asylum. The interaction between each other and the orderlies really pushed the story along and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. Locked up in an institution is a huge fear of mine, so the day to day interaction at the asylum kept me on edge the whole time. As far as characters go, Mother, was by far my favorite and epitomized my expectation of an asylum inmate.
Hannibal Hills has an excellent creepy voice, so if you want a horror story read to it should be from Hills. His voice has the ability to push you to the edge of your seat. I love his character voices and his voice really brings them to life. His narration and accent makes everything a bit more frightening as you are locked up in your cell at Arlington Asylum.

Not a happy book, but a damn good one
I love Lee Mountford. Ever he popped up on Audible like some hidden gem, I’ve been hooked. Happy endings just aren’t part of his style and I love it. I became so used to hero’s in horror going home happy and the nightmares dead, but that’s so far from the truth in this and his other books. This book is BRUTAL in ways that shocked me and made me uncomfortable, but it never felt silly or edgy. It felt like Lovecraft on crack and energy drinks.

Fantastic Horror!
This is the second book I have listened to from Lee Mountford. I find his stories fantastic with plenty of gore. The characters are well developed and the details are very descriptive. I was able to develop a picture in my mind of what was described, such as the “antagonist(s)”. I will leave it at that as to not give away what you are in store for. If you like imaginative horror (reminds me of Clive Barker)with plenty of gore, you will like this audiobook. I look forward to the next release from this author.

American Horror Story Asylum meets HP Lovecraft
Asylums give me the creeps. Not being in control of your thoughts, senses and actions is one of my biggest fears. Apart from that, the buildings asylums occupy tend to be a cross between a jail and a hospital, fact that make them ominous and unsettling in my eyes.
If you combine this sick and disturbing atmosphere with a higher lurking horror, you get “The Tormented”, a disturbing tale of survival in which the characters’ body and soul are on the line.
This book is not for the faint of heart. The descriptions of the author are graphic and the pictures they create in your mind will leave you feeling dirty and disgusted. The worst part of it is that even when this is a work of fiction, some of the scenes will be pictured in your imagination so vividly that you will think you are trapped with the rest of the inmates.
This book is good… in the worst possible way…

Not Bad
My opinion of this book kind of vacillated between thinking it was great and thinking it was okay/not the worst. Over all, I don't consider Tormented to be a waste of time for a horror lover. The narration is pretty good, although at times it was a bit lifeless. However, Hannibal Hills really shines at making the different characters come to life by using different accents and intonations. I am not sure if this book would be as good being read as a physical copy, because Mr. Hills really captures anger and aggression to the point where it becomes unsettling- perfect for this genre! I do hope he will read more horror in the future.
I think this book is worth picking up if you like disturbing characters and a story set in an asylum. I am definitely interested in listening to more Hannibal Hills- he has a lot of potential.

Over Does It on the gory
I'm a big fan of Mountford, but he spends too much time describing gory details. It ultimately takes away from the story. Not really scary just detail after detail of torture and murder. Overall book was okay but not his best like The Demonic.
