They say that revenge is a dish best served cold - but how cold does it have to be? ?And should it be chopped, sliced or diced? What dish is best suited to a man who at one point had an ex-wife, a wife, a pregnant girlfriend and a new girlfriend - all at the same time? I was an independent, clever, blonde and slightly wild 31-year old Swedish girl when I in 1998 met the man of my dreams. A big hunk of an Englishman, with the looks of Marlon Brando (a young Marlon that is), lush Paul Newman lips and a wide Gene Kelly smile? Now, still independent, clever, not-so-blonde-and-wild but also deceived, dumped and ditched by that same man.

Sixteen years together, and two kids. So what do you do when you find out that a big part of that has been a lie? Well - you write about it of course!? This is the true story about how Mr Right became the father of my boys. And how he turned out to be Mr Not-so-Right.

Names have been changed of course, but the email correspondence, texts and conversations are real. Welcome to indulge in my revenge - a sweet and juicy real life love story with a spicy twist!

I listened with disbelief as the author told her story. How could someone be so gullible! But then there are so many stories of women who fall in love with someone at the end of the phone. I guess this man was at least real.

Really?

Easy to listen to whilst walking the dog but baffled how she thought they were in a relationship let alone a loving one. Very juvenile from both parents, hope the boys have good judgment!

I’m sorry but come on?!

Brilliantly written and narrated. Loved the brutal honesty and I’m sure many can relate - sadly.

The book so many want to write

The middle is broadly skipable and there is a lot that isn't relevant to the outcome.

At the same time (spoilers ahead) we never get the details on the friends and family covering for him. Dwayne is clearly a bell end but the people enabling him are never properly explored. The same goes for the first wife, seeing her perspective would have been interesting.

Dull and repetitive

This book is a good example of what happens when you do not have well defined personal boundaries and values: it leaves you vulnerable to men like Dwayne. You are more willing to accept whatever you are given rather than demand a certain level of respect.

There is a point where I believe the author accepted the status quo because she would rather have something than nothing. There is also the sunk cost fallacy at play. He had sold her a fantasy and even when it became apparent he was incapable of providing the fantasy he had promised, she continued to maintain her belief in it despite evidence to the contrary.

I agree with other reviews that the book was repetitive. I think this reflected the monotony of the 'relationship' and illustrated that no matter the evidence, some people will stick by the fantasy version even when the truth/reality is staring them right in the face.
