Summary

When the Cutter family's next-door-neighbours, the Langleys, are gunned down in their house one hot August night, the Cutters' world is turned upside down. That violent death should have come so close to them is shocking enough in suburban Promise Falls, but at least the Cutters can console themselves with the thought that lightning is unlikely to strike twice in the same place. Unless, of course, the killers went to the wrong house...

To find out who killed the Langleys and why, everybody's secrets are going to have to come out. But the final secret - the secret that could save them or destroy them - is in the one place nobody would ever think of looking...

A riveting listen

I enjoyed this author's other book 'Fear the Worst' but thought this one an even more riveting story. From the very first chapter I was gripped and wanted to know what happened next. As with most thrillers you have to suspend belief a bit as one awful event follows another: life isn't usually as eventful as that of the Cutter family whose life is turned upside down when their neighbours are gunned down.
I thought the reader did a good job.

Really enjoyed this audiobook

This was Linwood Barclays second book and i found it as good as the first. If you enjoyed too late for goodbye you should enjoy this story. Hard to put down once you start, plot kept me interested and guessing until the end.

Good follow up book.

I read the first book in paperback, but got the audiobook (unabridged) for Too Close to Home. Initially I was a bit unsure of the narrator, but very soon I got into the book and was gripped. Ive just put his new book on my wishlist!

Write faster, Mr Barclay!

My husband and I listen to books together on split headphones daily as we walk, and through the speaker whilst doing other activities. I had read No Time for Goodbye years ago but never listened to any of Linwood Barclay's books before. We are hooked and are working our way through them all, currently listening to No Time for Goodbye which I cannot remember properly so don't mind a second time around. The audible versions means we can share and discuss and laugh or get agitated or whatever together. We love speculating on various aspects of the plots. We love the way Mr Barclay crafts a novel and ties up all the loose ends. So far we have not been disappointed in any of his books. It never ceases to amaze us how new and unusual his plots are. This book make us a confirmed fan!

Another good Linwood

Book was great. Audio voice was a little grating esp on female voices and put me off story a few times so I wish I’d got the paperback.

Wow - had me from the start!

Really enjoyed this, it had me gripped from the start. I can honestly say that by the end of it I’d have liked to smacked some of the characters (not going to which though - you’ll have to find out for yourselves? xxx

I'm hooked.

My favourite narrator Christopher Lane led me to this novel. Reviews were good and I wasn't disappointed with the purchase. I couldn't stop listening and finished this book in two sessions. There are lots of twists n turns throughout the story that will have you second guessing who did what. Highly recommended.

Gripping

What did you like most about Too Close to Home?

Such a gripping story I honestly can't separate one particular part.

What other book might you compare Too Close to Home to, and why?

I would be disappointed if I could do so. This is a stand alone gripping novel. Tight characters, runaway storyline that even I couldn't guess who the murderer was until nearly the end, and that is very, very unusual.

What does Christopher Lane bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Brilliantly read, constantly amazed, not only that the range of vioces, how the voices add so much to the character. Listening adds to the book, makes it come alive, but does not limit my imagination, as watching on TV dies.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Ellen told Jim she would not be able to get through the crisis without him

Any additional comments?

Thus us the first Linwood Barclay book I have listened too. Will be adding him to my must read list.
