Summary

Set in snowy Amsterdam, Together by Christmas is a moving read of secrets, romance and heartbreaking dilemmas by Sunday Times best seller Karen Swan.

When Lee first came to Amsterdam, it was with a newborn baby and a secret. Five years later, her life is approaching normal: her career as a celebrity photographer is flourishing, her son, Jasper, is growing up and they are enjoying the run-up to Christmas with their tight circle of close friends.

But all this changes one morning when Lee finds a book in the basket of her bicycle - and scrawled inside it, a desperate message. Who left it for her, and why?

Lee feels compelled to help and tracks down the book’s author, Sam. With an instant, undeniable connection it seems they might have a shot at a real future together. Until her past comes calling.

As the snow falls and ice thickens on the city’s canals, the secret Lee has never told resurfaces. Suddenly everything she holds dear hangs in the balance. Christmas is a time for being together - but what if the truth means she ends up alone?

Tragic but good...

Classic Karen Swan - complicated, interesting, story showing both the best and the worst in the Homo sapience...

Enjoyable.

The author always entertains. The book is not up to the standard of her earlier books but is still enjoyable.

Just couldn't make it to the end

Not really one for romance but Christmas is the one time of year when its fun to listen to something frothy. Sadly this one just didn't deliver. The main character is just, well, unlikeable, even allowing for her past, which was taking so long to uncover I lost patience. Nearly everyone was tall, beautiful and mostly shallow. I listened to just over half of the book but felt I couldn't waste any more time on it so returned.
The narrator did a great job with the pronunciation of some difficult names.

Disappointed

Really couldn’t get into this one. Narration monotonous and flat. Couldn’t relate to the main character and her unrealistic job.
