Summary
Vicky Turnbull has never regretted giving up her career for family life in the suburbs. And apart from being outstandingly good at paintball, no one would ever know that in a past life she was an undercover spy and has been trained to kill a man with her bare hands. Not even her husband and certainly not the other mums at the school gate.
But beneath the school runs and bake sales, Vicky had never quite said goodbye to the past. So, when a newcomer on the PTA sets alarms bells ringing and MI5 comes calling, she’s determined to prove that, despite her expanding waistline and love of pink gin, she’s still every bit the cold-eyed special operative.

Really enjoyable read
I bit different from what I usually choose but I couldn’t stop listening. Excellent narration and such a good story. Loved it.

A worthy winner of the Comedy Women in Print prize.
I loved this book!
The title alone is worthy of winning the Comedy Women in Print prize and the book is just as witty.
A great story, fast paced and fun, with a very relatable protagonist, who shines a light on how a lot of middle-aged mums feel. Although with a more exciting career past than most!
I laughed a lot and raced through it. The narrator did a great job although the credit has to go to Faye Brann for writing such a brilliant book. I can’t wait for her next one.

Best Read In Ages!
A really fun book! My favourite read in ages - fun and thrilling, a slow burner, but by the end I couldn’t put it down!

Go on, give it a go … you won’t regret it.
I’m not a mum, but I’m certainly a happily married ex-career woman of a certain age and I loved this book. Supreme escapism and it really made my week, whilst I was listening to it (via Audible). I hope that the author writes some more and begins a series … even though this is a brilliant self contained story (beautifully narrated), you care about the characters and you can see the promise of more to come. If someone of means and substance, doesn’t snap-up the screenplay rights … it’s just foolish, it’s such a gift of a tale. I would love to see this turned into a movie (as a foil for the 007 franchise). Go on, give it a go … you won’t regret it.

Exciting and never frightening
This is a light-hearted spy novel about a woman in early middle age who is recalled to her work with a branch of MI5. There are twists and turns, and episodes of tension, the book is nicely plotted with three dimensional characters, but I was comfortable that all would be well at the end. And it was! Reminiscent of the tone of Gilman’s Mrs.Pollifax novels of 40 years ago, if your memory goes back that far.

Easy listening and more of a story than your standard rom com novel. The narrator did well with all of the accents.
