Danish master of storytelling Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale of Thumbelina, the tiny girl grown from a magical barleycorn, is given a wondrous performance. The narration by Eleanor Buchan is as sweet and delicate as the title character, and the production is further enhanced with music and sound effects. Listeners can’t help but be enchanted by her search for love, avoiding the amorous overtures of toads, moles, chockchafers, and field mice, before flying on the back of a swallow to where she meets and falls in love with a flower-fairy prince of equal size and heart.
