Summary

With the public eye fixed on the governor's new Missing Persons Task Force, Detective Evie Blackwell and her new partner, David, are under pressure to produce results. While they investigate two missing persons cases in Chicago, Evie and David's conviction that justice is truly possible for all will be tested to the limit.

Dee Henderson pens another compelling cold case mystery.

Evie Blackwell's reputation as a top investigator for the Illinois State Police has landed her an appointment to the governor's new Missing Persons Task Force. This elite investigative team is launched with plenty of public fanfare. The governor has made this initiative a high priority, so they will have to produce results - and quickly. Evie and her new partner, David Marshal, are assigned to a pair of unrelated cases in suburban Chicago, and while both involve persons now missing for several years, the cases couldn't be more different. While Evie opens old wounds in a close-knit neighborhood to find a missing college student, David searches for a private investigator working for a high-powered client. With a deep conviction that "justice for all" truly matters, Evie and David are unrelenting in their search for the truth. But Evie must also find answers to the questions that lie just beneath the surface in her personal life.

Great narrator, suspense & character development

I'm always impressed when the narrator can change voices midstream to distinguish the different people. It took longer for the story to get going, but then it was very suspenseful! I'm still waiting to find out if they found Tammy!

Awesome

Dee Henderson has done it again, a wonderful suspense with just a little romance. When the recording ended I was surprised, not because I didn't know it was the end. But because I was so involved with the people in it, it was a shock to be back in real life again.

An absolute must read.

Threads of Supicion almost perfect

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It is one of the few books that really involve detective work without going into detail blood and gore, or unrealistic suspense sections where the killer gets by all the police, FBI, detectives and other law enforcements.

What did you like best about this story?

That Dee Henderson didn't try to have false closures to relationships. (Some don't always end in a perfect scenario) I also liked the way the crime was solved, and the detail surrounding it.

Have you listened to any of Johanna Parker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She really was just as good as her others.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No.

Any additional comments?

The only thing that I didn't like, was the long monologue in a couple sections. I finally had to fast-forward to get past the two monologues in Evie's mind and Maggie's mind. Other than that, it really is a great book.

The Governor's Task Force

Evie has a new partner in her position on the Governor's Task Force For Cold Cases. Working with David is different than her usual Police Investigations in that in cold cases you must revisit all of evidence already collected years before and tear it apart to see what was missed. They must find any witnesses still available and reinterview them. This is exciting to be able to give closure to families that have struggled without answers. At the pinnacle of her illustrious career as an Illinois Police Investigator this is a position only few are asked to be apart of and she is honored to be chosen.
All this comes at a time when a new love interest has entered her life and she needs to make the decision if she will continue on this path towards a permanent relationship.

Rewrite Needed

Bad ending. I really dislike it when authors leave you hanging. Need to wait for the next Evie Blackwell to see if the lost threads are picked up. Not sure I care to wait.

Great mystery/suspense novel.

I liked that more than one case was being worked on at a time to be solved. I loved hearing facts vs. theory, and using scenarios to put different perspectives into play. Best of all was the Christian aspect and respect displayed though out the book. Thanks for a great listening adventure!

Procedural

I'm a Dee Henderson fan, but was disappointed in this prodding procedural. Not much happens, either with the case or with the characters and their relationships. I would have enjoyed re-listening to any one of the O'Malley series more.

Enjoyed another Henderson book

This author does a wonderful job of creating caring and compassionate characters in situations that are real and intermingling Christian values criss-crossing with unsavory criminals...and the narrator is very good at distinguishing the characters for easy listening without making anything distracting. Well done, ladies!
