Summary

A memoir by the beloved comedic actress known for her roles on Freaks and Geeks, Dawson's Creek and Cougartown who has become 'the breakout star on Instagram stories...imagine I Love Lucy mixed with a modern lifestyle guru' (The New Yorker).

Busy Philipps' autobiographical audiobook offers the same unfiltered and candid storytelling that her Instagram followers have come to know and love, from growing up in Scottsdale, Arizona, and her painful and painfully funny teen years to her life as a working actress, mother and famous best friend.

Busy is the rare entertainer whose impressive arsenal of talents as an actress is equally matched by her storytelling ability, sense of humor and sharp observations about life, love and motherhood. Her conversational writing reminds us what we love about her on screens large and small. From film to television to Instagram, Busy delightfully showcases her wry humor and her willingness to bare it all.

I've been waiting my whole life to write this book. I'm just so grateful someone asked. Otherwise, what was the point of any of it?

loved it!

First audio book and I think I chose wisely with this one. Was so great to hear Busy narrate it also, it feels like a real sit down chat with the woman that we've all gotten so unaccustomed to hearing and following her story.

Just as you would expect Busy Phillips to be!

A wonderfully honest and heartwarmingly frank autobiography. Listened on my very tedious commute to work, and found myself gasping and laughing out loud in equal measure.

Just fab...good luck with the talk show Busy!

Read beautifully, relatable story

Well read and written and very relatable story for women and how they're treated especially in the workplace.
I loved Busy's brilliant impressions of people, she is a fantastic mimic.
Busy was badly treated by some people but sometimes she comes over as a little tactless and mean in her judgement of others but at least she was honest in recounting this. Also Hollywood sounds maddening so that goes someway to excuse this you could argue.

The most entertaining book in my Audible library

I rarely feel moved enough by a book to write a review but I want to strongly recommend this book to others. I actually look forward to my long commute - hearing Busy's story in her own words feels like the best chatdown with a really good friend. Her story is fascinating, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and hilarious - I find myself actually laughing out loud in parts, but also crying and gasping at other parts. I will listen to this one again and again. You don't have to be a fan to get a lot out of this book - I wasn't when I started listening (I heard Busy on Fearne Cotton's podcast Happy Place) - but I am a fan now! :D

Incredible listen, it's so enlightening.

It's a cry one moment and giggle the next, Busy reads as though she's reliving every minute. I cried with her in the read through, truly heartbreaking experiences, I laughed so much in her funny and heart felt moments. She talks about the darker side of Hollywood and the trials of being an actress. Its genuinely a book I listened to from start to finished, uninterrupted. She seems so much like that best friend who tells you insane and wonderful stories. From start to finish I thought it was incredible, I will listen time and time again. Consider me a die hard fan after this book.

Probably better to read the book to save your ears

I couldn't listen to it for more than 5 mins. The narrator's voice and accent was horrendous. That coupled with swearing every 2 seconds made me switch off and return it. I have no idea what the book is about, I just had to stop my ears from bleeding!!!

Was skeptical but pleasantly surprised

I think Busy is amazing but waited to read her memoir due to seeing some bad reviews and underestimating her writing talent. It turns out that I’m not the first to have made that mistake and I’m so happy I was so wrong! Her memoir was addictive, beautifully written, funny, heartbreaking and always intriguing. She really knows how to tell a good anecdote and her honestly and strong, bad-ass spirit really comes through in full force. I’m absolutely in awe of her fighting nature and found myself crying along with her as she shared really brutally intimate moments of her life. I’m sure she won’t read this but I hope this review gets others to at least read it too. Thank you for sharing bits of your life with us, it helped me from within a deep depression and that is fucking priceless. x

Must listen

Busy reading the book is perfection. My heart would break along with hers when her voice wavered or you could hear her voice breaking. It was a moving book about coming of age and life and our expectations and the reality of all of that, surrounded by other people’s trauma.
