What can I say? A lot, it seems...

This is my second purchase of a Patricia Rice novel. I haven't been a romance reader since I was 13 years old. However, I chose to read the first book because it was narrated by Simon Prebble (que the music🎶 - I'm in love with this hunka-hunka of burning narrator) and I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, that one novel is the only one of her books that he's done. Ah well, I'll try another. This narrator did....fine (he's no Prebble) and the story was almost as good as the first one (would have been GREAT ....if.....well, you know.....).

Here's the skinny.
I love "magic" part of these Magic Series books.
I love that it centers around the
Matriarchal.
I love that, yes the women are beautiful ,fey and besotted but they are also SMART.
I love that the men are all dickheads but also eventually find themselves made more whole, by the love of a good woman.
Okay, Okay.....I SAID OKAY! The men are all tall, hard of muscle 😉, and virile. Let's NOT, for the love of the old gods and the new ones, forget VIRILE!
All in all? It's 9, 10 or 11 hours of pure escapism. And look, you're listening to it on Audiable - you can't be embarrassed by the OVER-THE-TOP cheesy art on the book jacket.
As long as you use earbuds or headphones, you can tell your husband it's a book about how to be a better wife, your priest - it's a book about how to use God's gifts, your children - a book about family loyalties, but tell your girlfriends about the "hard of muscle" part.

Cheers!

Magic, indeed

A charming historical romance with magic attached as a new duke (Harry) discovers the utter indebtedness of his inheritance and additional complications adding despair and frustrations. Marriage and a hefty dowery would help and thus a quick marriage to Christina, his long-time betrothed. But his wife's quirky ghost-hunting behavior soon unearth's a devious mystery in the centuries old family estate needing the aid of Christina's quirky family's support. Ms. Rice adds this magical spice to what could have been a same-old-same-old historical romance which happily sparkled and entertained instead.

Very entertaining, and fun adult fairy tale

There is a prince, a princess, a castle, and multiple ghost! Of course, there is a bad guy with evil intentions, Unlike, the previous books in this series, This Magic Moment is light hearted, and a fun read. Fortunately, Ms. Patricia Rice did NOT beat us to oblivion with self doubt and repetitive, tortured inner dialogues, as she normally likes to do. This change is highly welcomed! And the results are a playfully creative and fast paced romantic escape. Enjoy!

Very Disappointed

I love this author but this was a chore to finish. I t was clear who the culprit was. The endless self doubt and explanation made me want to stop before midway. The performer is great but the story was sorely lacking.

I loved this book but, Audible where's book 5?

This is book 4 of the series & it is delightful! The performance was great. I enjoyed hearing of the antics of the Dutchess who can interact with ghosts. I was hunting for book 5 of the magic series & cannot find it on Audible but, book 6 is available?! What happened? Book 5 is about an seer artist who paints her husband before she meets him and I so wanted to listen to it! Audible please get Book 5 on Audio!

Aura! Aura! Aura! in every sentence

I’ve listened to more than twenty of theses types of audio books during the COVID pandemic. This one is terrible, which is a shock since P. Rice usually doesn’t disappoint. I loved the author’s description of mysterious hidden passageways in a Winchester House type castle but the main characters were annoying! Christina was reading everyone’s colored auras every three seconds (soooo repetitive!) and her love interest had very few redeeming qualities. Even the author couldn’t think of a reason Christina should be with this dull man so she wrote it so that they had always been betrothed to one another since birth. He was the only person who didn’t mind her reading everyone’s auras either (the rest thought her weird, including me!) and her being so cloyingly quirky. It was written as almost a murder mystery but the ending was easily deciphered chapters and chapters ago. Several chapters could have been condensed/rewritten/ tossed out altogether. Overall, it is not Rice’s best work by a long shot and therefore it isn’t worth your time.

I LOVE this series!

I have found the whole series to have all the fun elements of FANTASTIC story telling! Patricia Rice brings not only mystery, heaps of humor & fun but romance with sexy gorgeous heroes lead by quirky lovable heroines.
PLUS Greg Wagland brought the story to life flawlessly!
ENJOY!

1800 period

A love story of 2 people engaged but it wasn’t in the plan to really get married. One had a gift that could see and speak to ghost. A lot of twists and turns in this cute story in the English country side. A Duke with a fight on his hands to keep his country estate from going bankrupt. Of course behind every great man is a woman (wife) and her ghostly friends.
