Summary

An unfiltered, unapologetic, hilarious, and sometimes obscene assemblage of tales from the down-and-dirty traveling comedy circuit

Doug Stanhope has been drunkenly stumbling down the back roads and dark alleys of stand-up comedy for over a quarter of a century, roads laden with dank bars, prostitutes, cheap drugs, farm animals, evil dwarfs, public nudity, menacing third-world police, psychotic breaks, sex offenders, and some understandable suicides. You know, just for levity.

While other comedians were seeking fame, Stanhope was seeking immediate gratification, dark spectacle, or sometimes just his pants. Not to say he hasn't rubbed elbows with fame. He's crashed its party, snorted its coke, and jumped into its pool naked, literally and often repeatedly - all while artfully dodging fame himself.

Doug spares no legally permissible detail, and his stories couldn't be told any other way. They're weird, uncomfortable, gross, disturbing, and fucking funny.

This Is Not Fame is by no means a story of overcoming a life of excess, immorality, and reckless buffoonery. It's an outright celebration of it. For Stanhope, the party goes on.

Awesome book and read

I’m not hyping this up cos I’m a Stanhope fan but that was one of the best audio books I’ve heard. Not only is it ready by the man but he interjects from time to time to validate or explain further about the part in the book. This is great listen, well worth it.

So much better than the book.

Listening to Doug and associates tell this tale is so much better because there is much more with different characters chipping in all the time. It`s like listening to a gang of drunken friends sitting around chatting for an evening.

Stanhope - that’s all you need to know.

If you’re a Stanhope fan, you’re already on this. The book is just as funny as you’d imagine, but, as with the last book, it’s the interludes and asides from Doug and his friends that really make the audio book something special. With this, you get extra stories, clarifications, and some expansions. It’s a joy. Chad Shank’s reading, as always, is a thing of beauty, like a soapy t*t w@nk for the ears.

Funny when sober

Pure sober joy from start to finish! Normally I listen to Stanhope when I'm absolutely biccied, but this was great drive time entertainment shuttling back and forth to work!

Funny!

Rarely do I laugh out loud. The chapter on camping out at the Glasgow bus station made me swerve the car with tear filled laughter, on my journey back to, yes, you guessed it Glasgow - truly hilarious. I think I buck the fan trend, a Brit, female, semi non alcoholic, and reasonably well employed- there’s hope for you yet Doug - not that you care ...

Another Fantastic Book From Doug

Great to hear Doug to read his hilarious road stories, even better to hear Chad “Golden Pipes” Shank read them! You get extra stories from Doug and his friends too (as with the previous book), so worth buying even if you have read the hard copy.

just terrible

I must admit that I did not know of Doug before purchasing the aidiobook but from my first listen I knew I had made a horrible mistake. the narration was horrible with chapters altering between Doug and his friend which was confusing. just awful, had to get a refund as I could no longer bare to listen.

The extras are whats worth it.

I am a big fan of Doug Stanhope, and the best part about buying the audio is the fsct that he includes so much more in the audio book version. You get a chance to hear extra stories and tidbits that arent included in the book, or explanations of things for clarity. You get the full book and more.

WOW!!!

I never knew a worthless drunk could create such an awesome book! it gives me hope for myself!!! one of my all time favorite books! It was even better than your last book. maybe because it didn't end in your mother dying... it's on my bucket list to go find the little town that you should be mayor of.

If you like Stanhope

Hit youtube for a quick view of his standup to understand what you're getting here - this book will not disappoint. Digging up mother is one of my all-time favorite audiobooks - this book is excellent as well.

Honest as it gets!

Doug seemed to drink way less in this book during the reading, so the flow is a lot more smooth and steady. He should uave told that one story but didn't, but there was that other story that made up for it. Very great listen, i couldn't imagine reading it. Reading is for people with time on their hands, like lazy people.

Not a disappointment.

Once again Stanhope delivers....whether it’s stand up, pod casts, or literary ventures this dude always makes me laugh and from time to time somberly nod my head when he makes a good point about this materialistic bs world we live in. I know I’m a F’ed up degenerate but this book and other material Mr. Stanhope puts out make me feel like I’m not the only one.

One of the greatest audio books ever.

When Doug Stanhope writes a book, nothing is held back..then he backs that up with conversations with the people who were there.
