Story
Mankind has lorded over the land of Illian for a thousand years, building on the ruins left by the elves, as if it were their birthright. A thousand years is a long time for an immortal race to see the truth of things, a truth that has remained unsaid for a millennium - elves are superior. They are faster, stronger, and connected to the magical realm in a way that man could never grasp. Illian should belong to them.

The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Not as great as the first, but still good.
Honestly, I was hoping for something more in this book, but it is still good. I love the character development and the story is pretty decent. One of my favorite moments was Jack stealing a ship, and that is because I felt like only Jack Myst could only do that. The only problem I have, Scorn. Rather than make Scorn a terrifying villain, he just comes off as pathetic. The first time Jack won was through deceit and secrets. Here, Scorn should have known what Jack was truly capable of and use it to his advantage rather. If you want a book better than the first, you are not going to find it here, but I still recommend it.

Fun and utterly ridiculous...
I have listened to this entire series a couple of times. Each time it makes me laugh out loud at Jack's arrogance, and his daring death defying escapes, each more ridiculous than the last. I cry at the loss of fallable but loved characters. Some of the character interactions are predictable but the adventures are not. This is a fun and enthralling story.

A great followup!
I really enjoyed a number of other books about rogues and thieves (like The Lies of Locke Lamora) and this is now right up there near the top of my list. The protagonist has a good mix of cockiness and vulnerability and the story is unique enough that despite my dislike of genre mixing (slight spoiler sorry), I was still captivated. After listening to the first one, I immediately went and bought the other two books in the series and was not disappointed.
The second book was just as good as the first and still very engaging. I thoroughly enjoyed it and looked forward to the 3rd book.

Jack has done it again!
What made the experience of listening to Thief in the Myst the most enjoyable?
The narrator is great.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jack of course! Though I found Lorella's character to be very relatable.
What about Derek Perkins’s performance did you like?
His voices. Jack sounds like Jon Snow!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
