About this listen
Former Senator Jim DeMint's newest book, They’re Lying to You, is aptly timed as our country faces “a time for choosing". DeMint persuasively debunks 10 lies about race, gender, privilege, racism, border policy, and American society that have become deeply engrained and commonly repeated, especially among young people and moderates. Throughout this engaging audio, DeMint shows that these lies are based on myths, fear, anger, and selfishness - and can be persuasively debunked using logic, data, history, and our most important tool - Truth with a capital T.
©2020 Conservative Partnership Institute (P)2020 Conservative Partnership InstituteAs a British person I have one tiny correction. The American war of independence was much more complex than most think. Actually almost all the combatants still saw themselves as British on both sides and 1 in 5 sided with the crown.
The Boston tea party came about not because of excessive taxes, in fact New England had the lowest taxes in the empire and the wealthiest colonists. Rather, tea was so cheap that colonial smugglers could not make enough money. That is why the shipment was dumped, to raise the price of tea....somewhat different story to the perceived narrative.
In addition, many of the worst events of that war were carried out by patriots on loyal settlers who did not want independence. Bare in mind, if being part of the British Empire was so bad, why did Canadians, Australians, Indians and New Zealanders, amongst many others, remain loyal for so long well into the C20th?
