Summary

Caitlyn Aguirre is no magician - but that doesn't make her useless.

After discovering her true talent and uncovering the long-lost secret behind Objects of Power, Cat returns to school - intent on showing everyone what she can do. But her mere existence is a threat to the balance of power, convincing some to befriend her, some to try to use her...and some to remove her.

And when she and her closest friends become the target of a deadly plot, she must use all her wits to save them and escape before she becomes the first casualty in a deadly war.

alternative view into school of magic

My first thoughts in the opening chapters continuously dragged me back into Hogwarts. However once you get past that you then identify with the characters, in fact knowing the Harry potter stories probably helps visualise some of the scenes, action and the magic.

Anxiously awaiting book three.

I recommend this series for tweens and above. I am grandparent and could not stop listening.

Zero curse unusual and fascinating adventure into a new world. Characters are unique and you do not know what will happen next

I enjoyed the characters and appreciated that the main characters cared about those different than themselves. The story line is unpredictable

Christopher G. Nuttall has done it again

Fantastic story! You really get lost in this magical world and the narration is fantastic. Seskia really does a great job of bringing the story to life. Christopher really makes you feel like you're learning something that's absolutely real and factual and you are in school with the characters learning about magic.

Interesting, but she gotta grow up

This character is unbelievably naive. I'm not sure anything would fall into the stuff she does. She's gotta get wiser or the whole series is going to go downhill fast.

Highly immersive and addictive

Superb. THIS is part of Mr. Nuttall's best series, for me. No one creates a more detailed and believable magic world, and he comes close to Diana Wynne Jones and JKRowling in that magical combination of characters and plot that immerse you completely. I don't know, perhaps there are times he is their equal. I only know I could barely stop listening. I was very pleasantly pleased with Schooled in Magic, but the Zero Enigma series is even better. Warmly recommended. This is so wonderful that I had to order the book as it is not yet out in audio, but I do plan to order it when it is ready. Perfectly narrated in every way.

Fun book, but missing charm

Fun book, but the age of the main character feels very wrong.

The “internal” dialog and the adult conversation does not feel like a 12-13 year old.

The adults talks to her as an equal, discussing and wanting her opinion on world changing subject.
The teachers ask more for help, then providing guidance. Given advanced tasks, and displays very rational thought patterns. For a “kid” there a too few games, and messing around. Too many “grownups” ideas and dialogs, and too little hormones.

I would like to see her learn and fail more. She knows too much, and is too perfect for a fresh student.

The book main character would be more plausible with an age between 17-24 years
