This was a wonderfully immersive read with plenty of twists and turns to keep me engaged. Valeria is a delightful, if sometimes naive, young woman, and following her emotional journey was one of the strongest parts of the story. She falls in love, gets her heart broken, and is thrust into a nightmare of an adventure that ultimately leads her towards... Oh wait no spoilers. Her growth along the way feels genuine, even when her choices made me want to gently shake her.

The writing is strong and atmospheric, blending rich folklore with genuinely unsettling horror. The world is enchanting but never safe, threaded with a constant sense of dread that makes the magical elements even more compelling. The scares come in many forms, some subtle and some disturbing, and this is definitely not a book for younger readers. The folklore is especially well done; immersive, and memorable.

The pacing does stumble just a little in places, which kept this from being a full five-star read for me, but it never stopped me from enjoying the story overall. I'd comfortably rate this a solid 4 to 4.5 stars, and I enjoyed it enough that I'm genuinely excited to continue the series. So gather your pennies and grab this book, it's absolutely worth it, and I'm already looking forward to book two.

Full of rich folklore and horror

A perfect dark fairytale. Hunted woods, a lost girl, an old crone that speaks in riddles, some slavic folklore creatures and two hunters looking to teade treasures. Kept me hooked all day. The narrator was absolutely amazing. Hope there will be more 🥰

Loved it 💜
