About this listen

This Christmas, love is top of Florence Fairfax’s wish list

'Like eating a box of chocolates where every one is a violet cream' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'My only complaint is I can't put Sophia Money-Coutts' books down!' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'Hugely enjoyable novel from a mistress of the genre' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

‘You want me to write a list? Like a shopping list?'

'Exactly. But for what you want from a man’

Florence Fairfax might have been single for quite a while – well, forever, actually – but she isn’t lonely. She loves her job at the little bookshop in Chelsea and her beloved cat Marmalade who keeps her company at night. She’s perfectly happy, thank you.

So when Florence meets an eccentric love coach who asks her to write a wish list describing her perfect man, she refuses to take it seriously. Until later that week, Rory, a handsome blond man with the sexual athleticism of James Bond she asked for just happens to walk into the bookshop…

Rory seems to tick all of the boxes on Florence’s list. But is she about to discover there’s more to love than being perfect on paper?

Heartwarming and funny. I remembered enjoying a previous book by the author so didn’t hesitate. She’s brilliant to listen to!

A bit predictable but easy to listen to. I turned the speed down to 0.9 so that it wasn’t so rushed

Enjoyable

The Wish was enjoyable enough but the main character was 2 dimentional and annoyingly precious. Her neurotic counting seemed bolted on to try and make her less insipid but huge artistic licence had to be granted time and again to get through to the end.

"I need to tell you something urgently be we have no time" while the other person is too wrapped in their blabbing irellevance to listen, is tedius. These irritating, clichéd scenarios increased in frequency throughout the book to reach a crescendo of ultimate cringe, so clichéd that it would be slated at any creative writing course.

This is literary candyfloss and the lowest scoring of all her books, but still worth a listen.

Candyfloss for the ears

This book was so funny, made me cry with laughter and a little sadness at one point. This is my book of 2020- it was so good. When listening no thoughts of COVID-19, it literally helped me escape this challenging year. I started to listen to this whilst away in North Norfolk looking out at the amazing views. Thank you Sophia I have already downloaded another book by you.

The Wish List 5 stars.
