About this listen

A timeshift mystery. Perfect for fans of Sarah Burton, Stacey Halls, Jessie Burton and Kate Mosse.

Every family has their secrets…

Windsor, England, 2019

Amelia Prentice is recovering from the worst two years of her life. First her daughter and then her parents have died, leaving her without any surviving relatives. As she gets ready to put the family home, a vast Victorian house in Windsor, on the market, she fulfils her mother’s last request to clear out the attic, and she discovers a strange box of Victorian photographs.

The photographs are of a large estate in Pembrokeshire called Cliffside, and they feature the Attwater family. When Amelia uncovers the diaries of Osyth Attwater, she realises the family had tragedies of their own…

Pembrokeshire, Wales, 1883

Every summer the Attwater family gather at Cliffside to tell each other stories. The youngest in the house is Osyth, a dreamer and writer who waits eagerly every year for the wind chime in the garden to signal the arrival of her relatives. But her happiness is shattered when she overhears a conversation that tears her world apart.

Raised by her grandparents, she believed her mother, Eudora, had died. But it seems that may not be the case. Desperate to find out the truth, Osyth decides to unravel her family’s secrets. But what she discovers will shock her to her core…

What did Amelia’s mother want her to find out about the Attwater family? Who is Eudora, and what really happened to her?

And how is Amelia connected to it all…?

THE WIND CHIME is an enthralling timeshift novel set between the Victorian era and the modern day: past and present entwine to create a thrilling page-turning historical mystery.

This was a really pleasant book to read, not too dark even though some of the subject matter was very challenging, I found it easy to listen to before going to sleep. The performance was excellent with all of the characters playing out really well. The storyline was lovely and well told. The only thing I would’ve loved is a little bit more fairy folk!

Some magic, a love story and time travel, what’s not to love?

Really liked the story and will look up more from the author. Thumbs up.
Small critisim (that nearly stopped me from carrying on past the 1st 5 minutes) is the annoying babyish simpering voices the narrator gave the 2 main (strong and intelligent) female characters. Thumbs down.

Good story...

A magical story that will take you to family secrets, Welsh mythical stories, alternative lifestyles and mental illness in victorian times. Such an unputdownable read and wonderfully narrated. Neatly tied up in reality in the epilogue, fascinating.
Can’t wait to read the next story by this gifted author.

An Entrancing Story

A couple of years ago I devoured Alexandra Walsh's then trilogy and recommended it to everyone so I could later discuss it with them. Now I'm back in that loving embrace of her story telling read to me by the fabulous Emma Gregory. This is a stand alone intriguing Victorian mystery that's worth your attention.
