Summary

A deserted island, a vicious storm, a murderer amongst friends....

It was meant to be a fun reunion, a chance for six friends to reconnect and relive the adventures that brought them together in the first place. But from the moment they arrive on their island home for the weekend, Lyndsey, Sonia, Bobbie, Amanda, Juliet and Val realise that their paradise is filled with peril and there are consequences when you try to outrun the ghosts of your past.

As everything starts to fall apart and the friends begin to turn against one another, deep, dark secrets are revealed and an unimaginable horror is unleashed. They came seeking adventure, but now they’ll be lucky to leave with their lives.

Passed the time

Though I didn’t particularly like or care about any of the characters, it was just entertaining enough to keep listening.

This was really good.

I wasn't sure exactly what to expect when I started reading this yesterday, finished it this morning, couldn't stop listening. I thought after reading a lot of thrillers I had it figured out, won't lie I was wrong. Really well narrated by Sarah as well. I didn't like Juliet very much, she got on my nerves trying to control her friends lives. To be honest, only characters I liked were Marn, Val and Sonia. Lindsay also irritated me. My only slight critasism of the book was we're left with unanswered questions. I'm not a fan of ambiguous endings, there are things I still want to know. But otherwise, a really enjoyable read. I believed Marn from the start. I love this type of book, a group of friends or a tteam out together for an amount of time, either stranded or things go wrong. I saw similarities between this and "the dark" by Emma HORTON. Specifically when the power goes out. If you've read "the dark" I think you'll enjoy this.

Let this be a warning ….

In case you didn’t already know, this story makes clear the risks inherent in taking a trip to an abandoned island with a group of friends you haven’t seen for years and with whom you share a deadly secret!!! Given that, all proceeds as expected. No surprises really. The usual touch of madness, the kind of madness females are often prone to ( according to this particular formula). The usual ending! Tolerably well done. Neither good nor bad. You decide.

Good, but too long

I found the story gripping and it kept you guessing to the end, but it was too long and strung out. Worth a listen though!

way too long !!!!

Good narrator, the story was very reminiscent of Agatha Christie’ s And then there were None . Saw it through to the end only because i was spring cleaning !!

Excellently written gripping atmospheric thriller

At first I did not know if I would get into this as it took a while for me to familiarise myself with all 6 friends ............ but once I did, it was like pulling the cord on a speed boat ver-roooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom we were away for a wild adventure which kept me gripped night after night.
With an absence of travel over the last while I consider a location thriller the best medicine for thwarted wanderlust and although this was a storm battered bleak island rather than tropical sun it was just what the doctor ordered. Indeed as it was so bleak and the living arrangements so basic it made even better reading tucked up in warm bed as the characters battled the elements and a lurking killer.
It kept me gripped right up to the end and my husband asked for daily updates which is always a sign of a good book!
Looking forward to the next Rakie Bennett book and would recommend 100%
Narration was excellent, so natural and well read it just let the story shine through - first class casting and performance.

Excellent whodunnit

It would be too lazy to call this a Christie rewrite. It’s a good book in its own right well told, spooky and with plenty of red herrings.

Steady, not Gripping, predictable ending

Hard to get into to start with, trying to figure out which character was which, whole story was not particularly gripping, and no twists throughout, predictable ending

Cringy performance by narrator spoiling a good book.

I’m about 2/3 of the way through and although I’d like to know what happens I don’t think I can listen to Sarah Lambie for another minute. She’s doing wobbly voiced breathy acting. I don’t think she’s actually thinking about what’s happening in the story at all. It’s sixth form drama class acting - so damned cringy. I do feel sorry for the author.
