About this listen

Celebrity photographer Grace Buchanan has always known that one day she'd swap her manic day job for the peace and quiet of her beloved childhood cottage, St Christopher's - she just didn't expect it to be so soon.

At the reading of her mother's will, she's shocked to learn that inheriting St Christopher's hangs on one condition: Grace must drop everything for two weeks and travel the country with a mysterious stranger - war-weary Royal Marine Alasdair Finn.

"I laughed and I cried while reading this book. Thoroughly enjoyable." ( The Sun)

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wedding Cake Tree?

The walk in the Cairngorms and the shock of the water

What about Gabrielle Glaister’s performance did you like?

The Yorkshire accent of the Aunt. Unfortunately all the other accents sounded similar even the american. But the characters were so convincing and the story line so good it didn't really matter.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The main characters time spent hiding by the river. Another part of the book that moved me was the break up. It was obvious things were going to go one of two ways and both were going to be tear jerkers….

Any additional comments?

I laughed out loud and loved the teasing between the two main characters. The only downside was that the letters from her mother were too assured that the relationship would blossom as expected and were just a little unbelievable.

Captivating

Lovely story that kept me enthralled. Superb narrator. Easy listening on long car journeys. Would recommend if you want a story to get lost in

It swept me away too

A gentle story of beyond-the-grave revelations to a daughter of her mother's early life.
Some good ideas - sending the (single) daughter (and a highly eligible ) man on a journey to places of significance for the mother with a little more of the history revealed in a series of letters.
Happy end.
The Narrator struggled valiantly with the accents but was not 100% consistent.
All in all, an enjoyable read and binge-worthy if you are in the mood.

Enjoyable piece of chick-lit

This was a really heart warming story and rather different from the more traditional boy meets girl. Take a chance on this book - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Lovely lovely book
