Story
She bursts into my life like a storm, and nothing is the same again. One by one, I watch as my friends fall under her spell. Only I see that her smiles don’t reach her cold, furious eyes. And when I’m accused of things I didn’t do, when my home is vandalized, I know she’s behind it. But she only lets her mask slip when no one is looking, so if I say anything, I’ll look crazy. So when the baby shower comes around, I’m sitting on a velvet sofa in a posh hotel room, surrounded by balloons. But that afternoon, I finally learn the unbelievable truth. There is no baby....

Story
I didn’t know her name, but I heard her laugh, tasted her lips, and felt her warm skin as I held her in my arms. Together, we watched our young children playing in the sand, the warm ocean lapping at the shore behind them as the setting sun painted the sky. She was my soul mate, and this was our life, our beautiful forever.... Then I woke up - alone in a hospital room, connected to wires and machines. There was no wife, no kids, not a single soul waiting for me. That life I dreamt of never existed. The woman I loved, the woman I knew better than I knew myself - she wasn’t real.

Merritt Coletto and her husband, Luca, have the life they dreamed of: a coastal home, a promising future, and a growing family. That dream ends with a late-night knock on the door. Weak, broken, and emaciated, it’s Luca’s first wife, Lydia. Missing for ten years, presumed dead, and very much alive, she has quite a story. Racked with guilt over the beautiful life they’ve built, Merritt and Luca agree to help get Lydia back on her feet - it’s the least they can do. But the more enmeshed Lydia becomes in Merritt’s family, the more questions Merritt has.

The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

Summary
A woman’s suspicions about her ex-boyfriend become a dangerous obsession in a twisting novel of psychological suspense by Washington Post and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Minka Kent.
Eight years ago, Grace McMullen broke Sutton Whitlock’s heart when she walked away. But it was only to save him from the baggage of her own troubled past. Now all she wants is to make sure he’s okay.
Only everything she learns about him online says otherwise. According to his social media accounts, he placed roots in her hometown, married a look-alike, and even named his daughter Grace. He clearly hasn’t moved on. In fact, it’s creepy. So Grace does what any concerned ex-girlfriend would do: She moves home…and watches him.
But when Grace crosses paths with Sutton’s wife, Campbell, an unexpected friendship develops. Campbell has no idea whom she’s inviting into her life. As the women grow closer, it becomes clear to Grace that Sutton is not the sentimental man she once knew. He seems controlling, unstable, and threatening. And what a broken man like Sutton is capable of, Grace can only imagine. It’s up to her to save Campbell and her baby now - but while she’s been watching them, who’s been watching her?
Critic reviews
“Maarleveld's crisp tone and rapid pace capture the tension that heroine Grace carries with her throughout the novel.” (AudioFile Magazine)
“Kent piles on enough domestic complications to make you avoid your own next family reunion before she brings down the curtain with a thud.” (Publishers Weekly)
“Kent’s psychological suspense thriller delivers with an interesting premise, captivating characters, and unexpected twists.” (Library Journal)

A let down
I've read other books by Minka Kent which I thought were brilliant but this was such a let down. The narration was good but the actual story, I found boring. The character back stories were much more interesting than the plot of this book. Disappointed.

Great Suspense
I've never read anything by Minka Kent before and i wanted to read this book. It took a bit for me to get into the book but i'm glad i stuck with it. The twists and turns had me on the edge of my sit and kept me turning the pages. The book is easy to read/follow along and will keep you up to finish it. i'll have to check out her other books. I recommend this book for you thriller/suspense people.

Good story
This was a good story with great narration. I didn’t realize it was part of a series but it worked ok as a stand alone. I had a few questions but the mystery kept me intrigued and I thought the narrator did a good job with all the characters. I only discovered Minka in the last year or so. I’ve enjoyed each piece immensely and look forward to what else she shall share with us in years to come.

I struggled throughout the story. it was different but the same as other books I read. about people with mental illnesses. but the ending had a good twist. I also think that the best part was when she talked to her father's new girlfriend. about living. in the past and needing to find her own future life.

Was an ok story
Definitely not my favorite book by this author. It was entertaining enough but did not really keep my attention as much as her other books. Predictable ending and the story was pretty easy to figure out early on. Narrator is one of the best in my opinion and did another great job!
